Long-tubes will be installed on the Vette once we get some dry streets for installer/tuner.

 

Not good driving on icy streets with super-wide street tires! :cool: Let the winter mods begin! :lol:

Who are you having tune it?

"JusTune" in Independence, MO. I had the Magnaflow shorty headers put on last winter, he did the tune and I netted 495 at the rear wheels. Hoping to go over 500 with the longtubes. His tunes are "lifetime". So if it accidently gets re-flashed, he will retune for free.

I might have them do a tune on my truck next spring too. Mainly just to get rid of the spark knock at full throttle, or heavy loads. Can get a dual-tune I guess - one for towing, one for racing around town.

 

You sure pay for good results though. I bet just a tune on the dyno will approach $1k ... :noway:

Picked up a few front end parts and a much needed gas tank vent line for the Coronet. Now I'm waiting for the dollar to recover a bit (very hopeful thinking I think), so I can order new gauges and new head, cam, and intake…

We had a nice break in the weather for the last week... 60's in KC. So I had the new Kook's Longtubes installed on the Vette + tune. Dyno showed 514hp/530tq. Neck-snapping power. I like it. :D

Ceramic coated too. Nice!

 

Been wanting to throw a set on the Silverado, but my mental wallet is still in the early 90's. I just can't get past paying more than $250 for a pair of headers. Oh well ...

Haha! Mine is still in the 70's! I've been wanting headers for the Vette for 5 years. I finally caught up with a great deal at www.marylandspeed.com. It was the Black Friday sale... 20% off, free ceramic coating, free shipping. Couldn't pass it up! :thumbs:

I remember back in the day buying a set of headers for my s10 baja truck that had a 4.3 in it. Damned if it didn't eat gaskets up almost at every oil change, even using locking bolts that just came out at the time didn't help a bit. Maybe they were cheap edelbrock's ?? or maybe i installed them wrong but those days scared me away from headers for good.

 

Are they still pretty much the same way with needing to tend to them weekly to make sure the bolts stay tight so you don's ruin the gaskets? Adding 10 hp if that is not worth the aggravation that the added maintenance would cause at least for me.

He's adding 10hp to wheels......MORE than the current shorty headers he had installed prior. That would be a decent jump over stock.

Yeah my '78 Cutlass was like that, and so was my '72 El Camino, until I bought copper gaskets for it. Never blew one out after that.

 

Also had good luck with "Premium" level gaskets from a popular brand that I can't remember now ... maybe Mr. Gasket? I remember they were black gaskets with lettering on them, while the cheap ones were light colored, and seemed to blow every 5k miles.

Technology is so much better now. I had the same problems with the headers on my Jeep Renegade back in the 70's. Now everything is digitally designed and formed for an exact fit, with metal gaskets and tight tolerances. A buddy of mine has had his Kooks Headers on for 4 years and they are perfect.

 

I gained 18 RWHP with a performance tune. Was 496, now 514.

Yeah, the factory cats are so restrictive and really muffle that great LS3 sound! Long tubes are the way to go!
