I bought my 2015 GMC Yukon Denali earlier this year. I have had countless problems. I have had the retractable side steps worked on, the 4-wheel drive repaired, the transmission worked on, and countless recalls. In addition, I have experienced the constant vibration and noise as well. They have attempted to repair this through replacing all 4 tires, replacing the exhaust muffler with resonator, exhaust and tailpipe, insulated parking brake cable, and securing sheet and replacing insulation between headliner and roof. None of these have solved the problem.

 

On a side note, since my SUV has been in the shop for weeks on end now, they have scratched my vehicle, caused paint transfer, and dirtied up the headliner with smudges and hand prints. This is unacceptable.

 

I never experienced so many problems with a vehicle or encountered so many rude employees. I should not be having these problems on a $74k vehicle, or any new vehicle for that matter. I regret trading in my Range Rover for this vehicle immensely. GM may be posting great profits right now, but that will change when people see past the new overhaul on the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade and see it for what it really is- a poorly made vehicle.

Went back to the dealer where I ordered my new Suburban and asked to take out another 2015 Suburban LTZ that was built in Aug 2014. The salesman handed me the keys and said take your time. I drove it 52 miles and didn't have a pressure in my ears feeling. What I did feel I can only describe as harmonics at certain rpm's and speed that might be annoying on a long trip. I didn't take note of what they were as I was more concerned with the ear pressure or noise in cabin. It drove nice but feels a bit underpowered, wish at least it had an 8 speed trans or a 6.0 or the 6.2. I'm going to test a Denali next.

Hi All,

Well, the saga has finally come to an end (knock on wood). After getting my money back on the first one due to ear pressure and dizziness, I picked up my new order today and it is PERFECT! It is like driving two completely differently designed vehicles. I am telling you, I knew it was going to be better the moment I closed the door on the test drive before buying today. The truck felt less rigid than the first one I owned. Only my two cents, but I know exactly what the pressure and sounds feel like, and I don't think the issue has anything to do with noise cancellation. I am serious, the truck "felt" completely different the moment the door shut...before I even shifted into Drive. I drove it for 30 miles at different speeds and road conditions before officially buying it. I could not replicate the pressure issue...believe me, I tried. I was not going to buy it today if it was present.

 

Thanks to all those who were pulling for me to have a good outcome with the new one I ordered...I will send those same positive vibes towards you in hopes we ALL get a satisfactory solution.

Well, that's good news, glad it worked out for you. I wonder what GM did to fix it? I hope all the new ones are as good as the one you just got.

Thats great. What is the problem and how can we fix it? That remains the question. Ordering another unit and hoping that you get a good one doesnt work for me.

Amen. That was my biggest stress with ordering another. Hope is not a strategy, indeed. They definitely fixed something...

Jason: that's great news. I HOPE GM knows what the problem is. I do know the engineers spent a lot of time in ours testing the RPM's between the motor and torque converter. They wanted to replace the converter Monday, but we've desided to proceed with a buy back on this veh. I truly believe ours has other issues as well. It's a total joke driving this thing up our street. We live on a long steep street with a 20mph speed limit. If you lug the motor the whole truck starts to shutter and shake. The exhaust sounds like there is a giant hole in it. The truck flutters cruising down the road. The latest treat is the Nav screen just goes black, and will not go back on till you turn the truck off and restart it.

We are CROSSING OUR FINGERS! For we are picking up a 8 speed Escalade today. I hope, hope, hope to have Jason's success with our new one. With ANY luck I'll be posting good news by this time tomorrow. My father in law is just waiting for my approval so he can order his new Platinum Escalade as well.

Ready for this whole ORDEAL to be behind us !!!!!

In time I'm sure everything will be known on why this is happening. I'm baffled HOW this was ever an issue ??? There's no way that the intune car guys in R&D drove these and didn't pick up on this issue. I've been in the car business for 25 years. Have driven A LOT of different cars over the years. And it's so noticeable. Have put several other people from the dealership I work at. All of them are like WTF is up with this truck.

I'm 99% certain this isn't one single problem. I believe its several little issues that make this so noticeable. I think the ultra sealed up cabin, low profile tires, stiffer body, frameless glass, all play into this.

Please please let this new Lad be 99% better.....

Bought a 2015 LT Tahoe with "Buffeting" noise at 38-48 mph. Took to dealership they said it was the engine going from V4 to V8 and they couldn't do anything about it. Found this thread and tried taking the fuse but didn't work. Took back to dealership and they flew someone from GM to train mechanics on how to "fix" the problem. Talked with service guy today and they are having to take headliner out and add foam to fix. Waiting on parts. Arlington factory mentioned as the location these vehicles with these issues are coming from. Wish I had been aware prior to purchasing.

Well i will tell u this i had one bought back by gm and ordered another one. The new one still did the buffeting noise so i didnt buy it. I am in really close contact with the dealership they do alot of business selling GM. From the dealership side of this problem all they can say at this point to people is " start the buy back process" they have been trying everything GM has told them and it hasn't worked. Also one of my friends are working on the buy back process because of this problem and it is a 2015i. I love the 2015 but there is no way i would buy anther yukon until i hear what the problem is and how they fixed it for real. I just feel bad for everyone that owns them and also the people that are buying them as we speak. Also by the way the second one i ordered that i didnt buy. Some poor guy bought it for his wife and it has been back at the dealership ever since getting destroyed by the service guys experimenting with it. Doing everything GM tells them to. This guy is also working on a buy back. I looked at this yukon and it is a mess. GM is falling apart apparently. I guess that is why its call government motors. It is following the governments foot steps. UNBELIEVABLE

Well we have a 2015 4wd SLT in the driveway, and a 2015 i 4wd Escalade in the garage with 50 miles. Just drove the new Lad home from work. Sorry to report the pressure is as bad if not worse then the Yukon. :(

Guess I'll try the re-setting of the fuse trick and see that does anything. Over the smallest of bumps feels like the sub woofer is booming.

 

Oh what we do for our spouses! I wanted to be done with this whole thing and get a nice used 2011-2014 Escslade. But Noooo, pissed!

 

So the first 65k was a bummer, now this 84k is just as bad. I want my a Tundra back!!

    • That is a good correction. I think “severity” was probably the wrong word for what I meant. What I really mean is closer to event priority, relevance, and actionability — not “this code is severe” or “replace this part.” I agree that a truck can have a lot of trivial or historical communication codes, and if the product starts pushing alerts for every stored or low-value event, people will ignore it very quickly. So the alert logic would need to be filtered. For example, I would not want a random old communication code to generate a push notification by itself. A useful alert would probably need to be based on things like: - new vs historical - active vs stored - repeated vs one-time - duration of the event - whether it happened near the driver-marked symptom - whether it happened together with voltage drop, reset, bus-off, misfire, oil-pressure change, etc. - whether the same pattern repeats under similar conditions So instead of saying “severity,” maybe the product should organize events by affected system and priority. For example: Misfire event: Show misfire counts / roughness first, then fuel trims, RPM/load, DFM/AFM state if available, coolant/oil temp, voltage, and related DTCs. Oil-pressure event: Show oil pressure first, but only in context — RPM, load, oil temperature, coolant temperature, DFM/AFM state if available, voltage, and baseline comparison. Communication event: Show which module/network/message dropped, whether voltage dropped, whether the recorder reset, whether it was active or historical, and whether it repeated. Voltage/reset event: Show battery voltage, crank/wake/sleep state, module reset, communication dropouts, and what came back online first. That also solves the display-order problem you mentioned. The main report should not always show the same fixed list first. It should show the system that appears abnormal first, and then the supporting values for that system. I also agree that the truck already has an oil pressure gauge and MIL. The point would not be to duplicate those. The value would be in showing what else was happening before and after the warning or symptom. For example, if the MIL comes on for a misfire, the truck already told the driver there is a problem. The useful part would be: - which cylinder or bank looked abnormal first - whether it happened after an AFM/DFM transition - whether fuel trims were already moving - whether oil pressure or voltage changed at the same time - whether the same pattern happened previously without a MIL On the OBD port point, I think you may be right for a consumer-facing version. OBD is much easier for the average owner: - easier install - easier removal - inside the cabin - easier phone connection - easier data download - easier to include a pass-through port for another scanner OBD is also the right place for DTCs, freeze frame, VIN, calibration information, Mode 6, and normal scan-tool parameters. The reason I was looking at ECM-side recording is that some events may be gone by the time someone plugs in a scanner, and some powertrain-side network evidence may not be available the same way through the DLC. But I agree that if an OBD-based version can capture enough useful evidence for most owners, that is probably the cleaner consumer product. Maybe the split is: - OBD/DLC version for most consumers - ECM-side version only if it proves it adds evidence that the OBD version cannot get - shop/pro version if deeper powertrain-side event evidence is actually useful So I would not want to force the inline approach if the OBD workflow solves most of the real-world problem. Your last point is probably the key product requirement: the report should be specific to the system showing the abnormality. Not “here are 50 parameters.” More like: “Misfire-related event detected. Here are the misfire/fuel/DFM/context values.” or “Oil-pressure-related event detected. Here is oil pressure compared with RPM/load/temp/baseline.” or “Communication event detected. Here is what dropped, when, and whether voltage/reset happened first.” That is a much better way to think about the report.
    • It was all part of the tiny bit of fuel savings it goes towards what was mandated by the government. Much like cylinder deactivation. That was relaxed by the recent administration. All that doesn’t help the individual buyer. But as a whole helps the manufacturer to try to reach the previous ridiculous past mileage per gallon mandate. So yes it was mandated and added cost to the vehicle. 
    • You do realize that auto stop/start...was never mandated by the fed...right?     EPA Says It's 'Killing' Stop-Start, and Here's What Automakers Have to Say   "Start‑stop technology has never been federally mandated, and the EPA’s recent action removes regulatory incentives associated with it rather than prohibiting its use."
    • Anytime the government mandates something, you can bet on it being absolutely senseless.
    • just logged my best MPG for one leg this am - drove home from the Denver Airport, 45 min drive - all freeway, lots of traffic so speeds were limited and some stop and go, got 17.7 for the ~30 mile trip.
