Despite the fact I had both my 2015 Denali's repurchased, I can't stay away from this forum. I am truly rooting for you all to find a solution. If you're new to this forum and are experiencing problems, be sure to open a case number with GM immediately. It is the first step to a buyback. Good luck and can't wait to see the article!

Thanks for the advice.

What vehicle did you end up with after the Denali?

Posted

A Land Cruiser! I have an 85 FJ60. I am not a fan of the new ones myself. The gas mileage is and has always been horrible on those but the older ones can get down a trail. Digressing... I really would prefer my 'burban sans the buffeting. I really like the truck in every other way.

I had an older one as well and liked it but I agree....I like my Denali WAY more than I thought I would (or else i would have thrown the keys back at them after a week). I really want this to work out. They have located a SWB for me...Hoping it doesn't show up with buffeting and vibrations. :-)

I believe he ended picking up a 2014 denali after having two 15s bought back.

My replacement axle was delivered to the dealership today - my Yukon is right next to it in the bay and it goes on tomorrow morning. A GM field engineer is scheduled to arrive post-install to scope it and investigate further. I should have it back by the end of the week.

Interestingly, I was put into a 2015 Suburban LT rental, rolling on 22s. It had only ~5,000km on the odometer. It exhibited the low speed bump boom and the 70mph buffeting, but both were lower in intensity than my Yukon - almost acceptable. I asked 2 of the rental company drivers if they had ever noticed the boom/buffeting at 70mph, but they did not.

Fingers and toes crossed...

Newbie here but my experience so far. Drove a 2016 Yukon 4WD SWB SLT with 22's. We were unaware of the buffetting/vibration issues before the test drive but boy was it bad, almost unbearable for 10 minutes. Upon returning home I found this site. From the sounds of this thread it seems like it is 100% going to happen at some level. So we then drove a few 2016 Tahoes - LTZ, 4WD, one with 22's, one with 20's. The ones with 20's drove better but still had some buffetting. After writing off this line, we figured we would try again. Like somebody mentioned earlier, there is nothing else in this category. Infiniti is hard to see what is going on with those curves on the hood, plus way outdated tech. Sequoia is WAYYY outdated and horrible mileage. Everything else too small or way overpriced (Hello Land Cruiser).

So we went back to the GMC dealer and drove a 2WD, SWB Denali with 20's. The only noise we heard were some trucklike booms going over bumps at low speed which is to be expected, at least to me anway. No ear pressure, no vibrations, no buffeting, seemed pretty normal for what one would expect from an SUV on a truck frame. I asked the salesperson about this issue and he said (swallow grain of salt) that the issue is known and has been addressed by GM in the Yukons by changing glass vendors. The new glass is thicker and has more sound deadening. He said they've had numerous Tahoe's on trade due to this issue and the Yukons they've been replaced with don't have it. I'm not sure I buy it but that's the first I've heard of this resolution.

We're testing driving the vehicle for a few days to see how it does. So far the wife (the one who is most bothered by the buffeting/vibration) says she doesn't feel it at all. So far so good.

In conclusion, I doubt the issue has been resolved by thicker glass because another 2016 Yukon with 22's had it in a bad way. I think it is some combination of wheels, 4WD components and the design of the roof being super susceptible to those. However, it does not appear that all Tahoes and Yukons have this issue. FWIW, the vehicle we're driving now has a build date of 09/15.

Glass vendor ? Did I read this right ? GLASS ? Maybe thicker glass ? or loose ? Geeze Louise !!! Did I tell ya ??? HUh ?? And don't forget the sand bags on top just to see ?

Right, I know, asinine at best. Salesman will say anything. I think he believed his own BS.

That article come out yet

Not yet. It's coming. Let's remember this has been going on for over a year and a half. My push for an article only started a couple months ago. It's coming, I promise you. I have read it....it's pretty lengthy and will hopefully get GM's attention.

If I may chime in on this booming. I've 2015 Suburban LTZ $74k sticker. I drive for Uber and a few other black car services in NYC and have done over 20k miles so far this year in mixed highway and city driving. I was also a body tech for over 15 years experience. I was also an auto body tech for Sewell Auto Group in Dallas TX. Excellent dealer by the way!

- There is hardly any sound proofing in these trucks, (my truck) when it rains it sounds like I'm under a tin roof with. Unbearably loud at times! The rear quarter panels same thing, just have someone tap on them with their nails on either quarter panel while you sit in the back set or any where for that matter and you will hear what sounds like a tin drum inside. Drive on a road with some loose asphalt and again you hear every single pebble striking the rear wheel-wells.

- The (25, 35 45 etc.. mph) sound we're hearing is to do with 1) Cabin sound proofing. 2) suspension booming like hell on the slightest crack or bump.. I have the 22" wheels too, and ugh!! 3) These trucks are obviously tuned for high mpg's and low performance and under very soft acceleration in 4cyl mode you hear a shuddering coming from the drivetrain (what sounds and feels like a manual transmission in the wrong gear, i,e too slow a speed for a high gear).

My warranty is almost up and I use this SUV for a living and man do I have a headache at the end of the day after driving for like 12 hours and booming going on :tear: !!

I'm gonna try the dealer this week, for the record.. And after the bumper to bumper warranty is up if they don't fix my plan is to bite the bullet and spend a weekend taking the truck apart to do the sound deadening myself and document it all with pictures everything. I mean quarter panels, wheel wells, roof.. I don't think the ribs are enough for the roof. I plan on researching a sound deadening spray for there too!

Other issues:

-Drivers seat alert vibrating probes are coming through the cushioning of the seat and feels like the springs at first I thought. Do not plan on the seats lasting long in this truck!

-Rear carpet looks like piecemeal.lol. Behind the second row bench seats I have the bolts almost about through the carpet.lol

-I anticipate paint issues with these trucks too. small chip on roof already rusting. Other areas paint chips reveal hardly any paint material. other areas missing paint primer cleared over.. Left rear quarter panel already looks like the clear is starting to separate from the base-coat.

-clunking driveline sometimes the tranny down then upshifts in under a second making a clunking sound! Horrid!! also going from reverse to drive or park to drive etc..

-Radio reception is awful.

-Backup camera awful. in comparison to my wifes 2004 lexus gx 470.

-Suspension creaking over speed-bumps.

-left side mirror led light keeps falling out.

-Middle of the dash is starting to make a rattling sound!

-Drivers seat bracket/frame is clunking sounds loose or the base...

-Battery failed me in Demarest New Jersey and I was on a job for my most important client NBA Basket ball player. I figure I put the on-star to the task and call for roadside. I tell them the battery needs replacing and they respond we don't carry batteries for roadside get a boost and drive to dealer I say ok a boost and I'll take my client to the Airport and swing By Potamkin Chevrolet for a new battery. What can go wrong? I get to Potamkin at 12noon on a Friday I tell them battery is bad if you shut it off the truck probably wont start. They tell me they cant do it until Monday. On-star will help me find another dealer, right? Wrong! Constar receptionist tells me she called 5 dealers in the area and they wont help. Im in the middle of Harlem 2495 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10035 2 hours from home and I cant shut my truck off.... Needless to say, I'm canceling Constar next! $40.00 a month for what? LIP-SERVICE ?

It's a shame to have to pay over a thousand dollar a month car payment for 5 years for a vehicle that has such issues and a dealer network in New York that is so lacking!!! Mercedes on the other hand I have a 2001 ML430 battery went bad called roadside guy comes out replaces the battery and only paid for the battery. The seats in the 2001 benz are almost exactly as it was brand new..

And don't forget the sand bags on top just to see ?

A handful of pages ago I posted how I added two large pieces of luggage (filled with sand bags) directly to the roof and strapped them to the luggage rails and spent a good 30min driving around. In many instances it did reduce the buffeting...I didn't span the entire roof from front to back so it wasn't a perfect test but will say that the overall buffeting was reduced and changed to some degree. If I find time I'll try to experiment further and try to compress much more surface area.

If your truck is one with separated roof bows, you should be careful of adding weight to a roof with just thin metal as a support?

not concerned one bit...it's not that the roof bows are missing or detached from frame. The sheet metal still has support to sit on as the bows are still there...the issue is they are not fused together. I can tap on the roof sheet metal and it's obvious none or maybe 1 of the bows are attached. There's no comparison when comparing the sheet metal to other SUVs. The yukon really does feel like a cheap tin can.

How were you able to arrange that with GM? The people I have been dealing with (arguing with) have been incredibly difficult. Instead of acting like they are doing the right thing here, they seem to think they are making some grand gesture by replacing this car, and expext me to cough up more money to do it. The replacement vehicle is an exact clone of my current one (minus the buffetting, I hope), and mine only had 200 miles on it when this whole thing began. It's not like I am asking for then to trade me up to an Escalade here, I just want what I paid for.

Did you end up having to go through a lawyer to get out of the situation, or did the dealer work with you on getting into the 2014?
