Has GM ever used belts on anything? I sure can't think of any...

I know the DOHC 3.4 V6 that was used in some 90's W-body GM cars did. Can't think of any others.

Sonic and Cruze 1.8 and the Cruze Diesel, I think thats about it currently. Everything else is chain drive.

Yup, pretty much the rebadged Daewoo's are the only ones I am aware of.

My dad (after being re-ended and given false insurance info from the lady) was in the market for a cheap but somewhat reliable car to get to and from cancer treatment a couple years ago. Went to a GM dealership to look at an Aveo (same thing as a sonic I think?) with just over 75k miles on it. The sales guy didn't have any records of the timing belt being changed, but insisted it's fine, and "if it goes, just replace it then". Claimed to know about interference engines and the whole deal, but couldn't understand why we didn't want to buy a car that needed a timing belt done right away, and wouldn't just wait till it snapped.

We did not buy the car. Found a Saturn Ion for the same price, with fewer km, and a much better car overall.
