Hi peoples ,

I joined the site because I'm looking for information on my stock 2000 Chevy k2500, 5.7, 4l80e with 373 it, stock tires and 75k miles. I am considering going diesel or I am looking for bolt on horsepower as the truck is paid for and it has low miles. Gas mileage is not the best at 9mpg city and 16 mpg highway It's always sucked pulling my 18' camp trailer. I'm willing to spend 5k, much more and I would be better off buying a different truck.

It's got factory duel exhaust with 2 high flow cats, I put in a billet aluminum distributor and spider fuel injection. I've read the independent studies on cold air intakes and it doesn't make sense to put in on my truck. Things I'm considering : lower gears, billet aluminum performance pulleys ,electric fans on the radiator, headers, Whipple supercharger and new tuning for my ecu. I understand more fuel means more power, I just don't want to end up with 5mpg and poor driveability. Thanks for reading and I would appreciate your experience.

I have 1988 firebird with a 1969 corvette 327 that has more mods than I am willing to put down. The old boy that did the work, removed the emissions and converted it to a carberator. The car body was neglected for many years and his kids had trouble selling it. I honestly didn't know what I bought until I chased down the serial number on the block. I decided to get it for the engine for another vehicle as it came with all the chrome, a new 4 core radiator, headers and an edelbrock carberator I can put on my boat so I can do away with the quadrajet that's on there.

My dad is 81 years old and always wished he would of built a car when my brothers and I were younger. I had an 88' suburban that was mechanically sound but the body was shot. I just decided to cut it up. My kids and I cut the sides off, removed 12" from the floor boards on each side and 12" from the firewall. I had a local metal shop bend up the panels and added 4 rolled fenders. We welded it up and shot the paint in the driveway. It's not real pretty nor is it supposed to be but we've had a million dollars worth the fun both building and driving it.

I'll add I'm 47, married, prefer GM trucks, 5 sons and 3 step daughters, just getting started with 5 grandkids and an empty nest !

I guess you'd have to look at the total worth of the truck you've got as a trade(or private) plus the mod fund and see what it can get you. There is something about twin screw powered chevy small block though. The mpgs would take the hit due to having your foot in it more just to hear it scream. But the low end torque would help with the towing too. hmmm... Seems you really have a tough one to decide on. And welcome to the forum.
