Silverado Projector Headlights

Haha I read through it and realized that when I hit your last post. I still dont see a good way to improve light output and color without losing the auto headlights/DRLs. So mine are still stock until I do.

Theres a thread somewhere around here but basically you run a relay for the normal headlight operation and have it tap into the parking lights. When that turns on with the auto function then it'll switch on the lights while disabling the DRL.

Found it. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/157553-disabling-daytime-running-lights-drl/page-15

The DRL disable harness I linked above has an option to turn the fogs into DRL's, just FYI.

Also, you won't lose the auto headlight function, essentially though, your new HIDS will be on any time you are driving unless you manually turn them off.

so every time you shut off DRL ,doesn't that shorten the hid's / ballast life cycle ???? my led's are better than stock , BUT still looking for a good hid kit . GM take DRL and ??????

Thanks for the options guys, not sure I can justify the coin for that harness or that I want to be jumping anything in fuse box wiring. Might look into LED as I don't think that'll have DRL issues right?

I went with Diode Dynamics and a replica set of LTZ projectors from 1A AUTO.

So far so good with the performance. I like it much better than the stock reflectors. Everything has a 3 year warranty and it was mostly plug and play. I had to drill 2 one inch holes in bulb covers and the rest was pretty much plug and play.

Can you post some pictures of the output of the HIDs in these housings? Like on a garage door (or wall), and on a dark road. I've been looking at the exact same projectors. Currently running HIDs in reflectors..don't get flashed ever, but obviously want to do it the proper way. Pics would be great. Thanks

Yeah I will post some pics asap. I had to wait on replacements due to the adjusters not being hooked up inside housing on both of them. Must have been a Friday set. It could not be fixed without breaking seal and splitting housing. The 2nd set are working properly. 1A Auto was prompt in shipping replacements. They look pretty good, but don't fit OE perfect. Not enough for anyone to notice, but as the installer bolting it I know it needed some very minor persuasion. I just installed today and have the cutoff set, but haven't put radiator trim back so adjustments can be made to lights if needed before I button it up. I can see a band of light from 30 feet or so past the shoulder on both sides of road and the cutoff looks like it is above most vehicles as they approach. I passed maybe 60 cars at dark tonight and got flashed once. I was cresting a hill so might not count. It has made an incredible difference. I set cutoff by parking 25 feet from a wall and transferred the ground to center headlight height measurement to the wall and subtracted 2.5 inches and set top of cutoff there. I will get some more miles and see if I gotta drop them a bit or if flash was a fluke due to hill approach.

FYI the LTZ replica projector at 1A Auto is made by Eagle Eyes (Taiwan). OE is made by Sylvania/Valeo. 1A is more dinero, but they are an established company with a 1 800# and I had a problem with the lights and 1A fixed it quick. Ebay might not work so smooth. One Ebay set has a 10 year warranty. Will they be there in 10 years. 1A has been around since 1999 that I know of and don't look to be going anywhere.

FWIW I came across this video a while back when I first started to look into lighting options. It talks about an easy remedy to your reflector/HID set up. I almost did this, but pulled the trigger on Projectors.

I'd rather just get new housings. I like the look of them. I won't have an issue with aiming. My family's trucking business garage has a DOT aiming chart. Used it to aim my reflectors and I hardly ever get flashed. But would rather have projectors. Thanks for the info on 1A auto vs EBay. Will def go with 1A when I purchase. Look forward to seeing your pictures

I know what you mean. They look great and they look stock. I didn't get flashed on a 35 mile trip between 5 and 6 am today. I see no glare on faces passing. Top cutoff is right around the average sedan window sill height with enough overlap to see street and traffic signs at a good distance. Made a big difference seeing in the rain. I still will get some more pics on the road and with some different cameras. I have several that I cannot upload. For some reason it keeps telling me Error 301. post-149892-0-63651600-1450367871_thumb.jpg

Has anybody bought the eagle eye brand ltz replica headlights with the halo rings off of eBay? If so are they made well and holding up good.

I have the Eagle Eyes replicas on my 2014 LT from 1A Auto. They can be had for cheaper, but the warranty at 1A is good. One Ebay seller says 10 year warranty. Will they be there in 2 years let alone 10. 1A has been around since 1999 so they are pretty established. The first set they sent had an issue. The adjusters were never connected during manufacturing. It would have required breaking seal on halves to fix them so I called 1 800# and they shipped another set that day. PITA yes, but I was not left hanging or going thru BS to make it right. I have 60 days to ship defective ones back with a provided RMA label to cover shipping. I really am happy I was patient and in very short order I was up an running with Projectors and some nice HID's. I might talk with them about purchasing defective ones at a discount. I thought about splitting them open and doing an FX-R 3.0 upgrade and can connect adjusters while I am in there. I might figure out a halo to add to them. FYI the Eagle Eyes are from Taiwan. The OE ones are Sylvania/Valeo. The only difference I found is the fit. It just requires a little massaging and they work well in the end. It is a fit issue no one but the installer will ever notice. The bulbs are a little tight too, but do fit. Very minor stuff. Do not let that sway you away from them. I am not talking body line issues or bolts lining up. Just a snug fit. They are worth it and at half the cost of OE even better. Go for it, I think you will like it. As for a halo. I thought the LTZ projector had a halo. I could have sworn I saw a set behind me in traffic running a yellowish halogen partial halo. Projector was off. Mine have no halo. I have since recalled that we were driving into the sun and I must have been seeing yellow sun reflecting off the chrome parentheses on either side of projector (0). I have faced my truck into sun a few times since and it sure does reflect sun and looks like a yellowish halo reflected off that chrome around projector. Still not satisfied. Bummed me out when they didn't have the halo. Unless I am wrong and OE has them? I have not really dug too deep into it. I still like them way more than the reflector.

I just looked on Ebay and see the ones from Sabersport for $289 a set plus $43 for shipping. Those have halo's, but are not LTZ replica. Looks like they would fit. I remember looking at them now. I couldn't find any real world data on them and the warranty stinks so went with the actual "replica" knowing how they work OE and knowing they would improve with an HID and am kind of glad I did cause it looks OE like it came that way except when the light comes on it looks and performs better than OE. Cost $100 more, but has a great warranty and an established company with a 1 800#. What matters though is what you like not what everyone else thinks.

These are the lights that I'm talking about. http://m.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Dual-Projector-Headlights-w-Halo-Rim-Chrome-for-2014-2015-Silverado-1500-/311480218918?nav=SEARCH

I can't find any reviews on them and I don't want to have one of the halos burn out after a short time.

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
