Did you see my post about GM's bulletin pit 5313 ? If your truck was built at Fort Wayne Ind. prior to may of 2014 and the 11th V.I.N. is Z ask about it. They tried to tell me the same thing but as you can see all the paint problems on this topic are not just a coincidence. If they still refuse to do anything call customer service. I just got mine back yesterday, they painted both doors on the right side even though I only had one area at the bottom of the front door starting to flake off. I have a 2014 double cab chevy Z71 silver ice metallic.

Don't take no for an answer.

Let me know if this helps.

Took my truck to the dealer, they informed GM about it. GM told them it won't be warrantied because they believe it was caused by a rock chip. Well, it probably was, but still the paint is flaking not chipped. They didn't even take any pictures of it, so how can they tell? Advice on where i can go from here.

First off, when dealing with GM, stand your ground. They will expect you to roll over and take it because that's what 99% of people do. I have dealt with a few issues with GM including what I have been going through with my now 2nd 2014!!!! The first one I had, all the under coating had fallen off the frame by the time I hit 1200 miles. They wanted to "fix" it, I argued for a week and called customer service and let them know that there is no way i'm keeping this 50k truck when the frame was rusting already. I ended up getting another brand new 2014 SLT All Terrain except this one had Nav and a 6.2:) They had asked me if there were any options on the first truck that I would like. They delivered the truck to me within the week. Now with 13xxx miles, my paint is falling off. Since my truck is lifted, the dealer wanted to play the "you have bigger tires and have modified the suspension, so your warranty is void" bullshit. Well I had confirmed before lifting the truck that all would be fine if I did the lift, rims, and tires. After the service manager had talked to the GM reps, he didn't like what they had to say. Which was that my warranty was still in full effect and that the lift and whatnot had nothing to do with my warranty unless it could be directly linked to whatever happened. So, back to the paint... the Service manager wanted to fight with me that my tires caused rock chips and that's why the paint is falling off. Well, I do agree that my tires may have caused the chips, but there is no way the paint should be falling off. So, before the manager ever heard back from GM, I took my truck to the body shop where my dealer has their warranty work done. The guy came out and looked at my truck and I shit you not said, "that looks like the one we just did a couple weeks ago" WTF I was thinking. My dealer had just had the same issue with another truck and also just had done a 2014 sierra with a color matched front bumper like mine because the guy complained about the bumper chipping too easy. So, it goes to show you that they will keep those things from you to try and get you to go away. The body shop guy told me after scraping some paint off with his fingernail, that my paint was "de-laminating" same with the last truck they did. So, I guess since mine is lifted, they figured they would just through that excuse at me. In the long run, I was a dick, I stood my ground and will be getting my front bumper and both sides of the truck painted. Lets hope for the body shops sake, that the paint matches the roof and hood.

Have they changed the paint process on the 15s at all or have most of these problems been narrowed to 14s?

I'll have to look into that. I'm not about to stop fighting this. I think my truck was actually built in may of 14 so I'll have to check the Vin after work. But thanks guys. I'll keep you updated

Read the TSB. Anything built in Fort Wayne after 5-15-14 is not affected.

I live in Mi. also and if you got a dealer to replace your truck I'd like to know what dealership it is.

I edited my post. My first truck only had 1200 miles on it when all the coating on the frame had fallen off and started to rust. No offense but i'm going to hold off on naming my dealership until my truck gets painted and back to me. I really don't want them pissed off at me if they're going to have people calling them about getting their truck replaced. I'm not trying to being a dick, my dealer and I are on a good note at the moment and I would hate to see things go south. I will post as soon as its done.

I wasn't asking so I could call them I was just curious, but I understand why you don't want to say. Good luck with the paint job, hope it's all good.

Can you tell me more about this? My truck fits the criteria.

Wow! Is that really all paint just flaking off??? That's terrible.

On a side note, what front mud flaps are those? I'm going to put on some running boards and dont see the point of mud flaps that hang way down low when I only need to cover the gap between the flaps and the boards. Thanks

    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O.
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
