Paint chip on door after car wash

I went to the same car wash today I use almost every Saturday. When I got out to vacuum there was a 50 cent peice sized paint chip. Spoke to the manager and of course it wasn't the car wash. He suggested going to the dealer for a paint issue. Does anyone know of any paint issues on the 2014's? Any suggestions on my next course of action?

Tough deal there... take it to the dealer... I would be careful about mentioning the car wash at the dealer and leading them into conclusions that it must be the carwash's fault.. when in reality you may just have a paint adhesion issue.

Wow, I was just headed to the car wash with the same color truck. Paint is one of my major concerns with newer vehicles because of the new water based paints.

I think not mentioning the car wash is a good idea. Guess I'm done with automatic car washes.

Yes I have seen that before on the 14's. Damn GM still having paint issues 30 years later. Anyone remember the peeling paint of the 80's?

This is a bit stale of a concern, they switched to water based decades ago.

 

Just be glad this isn't an 80 something Dodge running around. I used to see Dodges EVERYTHING missing half their paint!

that sucks, sorry to hear. Ive noticed the paint just doesnt seem like its been cured properly, feels really delicate. i got a chip on the door handle, one on the hood and one on the door all within the first 2 weeks of having the truck (also rock to the windshield...)

 

I won't use automatic car washes anymore. Just don't trust em.

i refuse to use drive through car washes but i learned that the hard way. there was a new car wash that got built about 10 yrs ago, i didnt know it had rails on both sides of the convayer the rims sit on, it scuffed up one of my rims then ripped off my front plate and cracked my bumper.

car wash paid for new plates, bumper and labor but wouldnt cover the rims claiming it was from being curbed ...on the driver side.....with directional tires i couldnt have ever mounted on the passenger side. i did manage to polish the scuffs out though.

I don't have any experience with these types of paint chips but the paint that came off is very thin and cracks easily. I could take the paint off around this chip just by rubbing it.

Water based paint was government mandated in 2006 I believe. Since then everything has game to crap unfortunately. I noticed a small chip on the edge of my door the other day and have no idea where it could have possibly came from. It's like it just decided to fall off.

Update: Took truck to dealer and it is a factory defect that is covered under warranty. GM is setting me up with a rental while the door is repainted. They gave me the option of repainting the entire truck but I chose only the door. If it doesn't match they will have to repaint.

They give any indication that if it happens elsewhere they'll do it again? You might want to make sure.
