Tuner for 6.2L 8 speed 2015 GMC Sierra Denali

Need help getting a tuner for my truck from either bully dog or diablo but I am not sure if one will work on the new trucks anyone know or can help?

 

also where does everyone mount their tuners on their 2014+ GM trucks

I am sure no one has a tuner out yet, I would be contacting black bear and other efi tuners.

 

Might see who is doing Corvette tunes as they have had the drive train a lot longer.

 

The torque management was a joke on the 8-speed I drove the other day, ecm pulled all power on shifts, fell flat on its face, with as quick as the 8-speed can shift it should simply blip the throttle as it rips a shift, with GREAT tuning I think great things can happen.

 

Letting a tuner program the new trans scares me.

Im hoping bully dog has something.. the trucks fast enough as is i just wanna lift the sped limiter cause going 98 only just kills me

Way back when I had my 2003 Avalanche, I was passing a long line of slow cars when I hit 103. It's the worst feeling to have no more power and have it cut out in that situation.

I would be surprised if anyone has the ability yet, while the Vette came out first with the 8sp those cars have only been on the lots for maybe a month or so now. Usually once HP Tuners or EFI live breaks the code then everyone else will be able to access the code as well.

I'm in the market for a bully dog on my 2014 to firm up my shifts and raise speed limiter ONLY. My 6.2L has plenty of power and if I want more I plan on adding a supercharger but the way my 6spd shifts is like a grandma between gears. with my handicap conversion i'm unable to access manual mode or tow/haul mode because they remove the shifter stalk to do the conversion. I shift with a touchscreen.

 

anyone have experience with a bully dog on a '14?

If all you want is the abilty to remove the speed limiter then most tuners are able to do that. Mine is Diablo tuned and while I hardly notice any difference over stock, I am able to go over 98. I hit 121 in the UP last week and it was still pulling very hard.

actually shift quickness/firmness is my main concern. rarely do I get the change to top end my truck but those granny sloppy shifts bug me

Your truck is a 6 speed. Most tuners can tune that trans. I was responding to the OP as we have 15s with the 8 speed.

You will wish you didn't do that when the driveshaft exits the truck. I am all for going fast but the driveshafts in these trucks are known for flying out, good way to get killed. YouTube is your friend if you don't believe me. Not busting your balls for speeding at all, I love to rip, I just know the limits of the driveshaft on these trucks and you don't want to have the rear end of the truck catapult 6ft in the air when doing 120mph, it will kill you

Youtube is your friend...i have seen videos of many many gm trucks doing well over 130+ for extended periods of time. I have been over my 98 speed limiter twice, ever. Once to make sure it was turned off, hit 104 and then last weekend. The new 6.2 is so fast it hits these speeds far quicker then you would think. I hit that passing 2 spaced out cars downhill. There isn't a doubt in my mind the 8 speed 6.2 can do 140+ but I wont do those speeds that long.

Rockout, I don't give 2shits if you roll it 12 times or not, was just giving you a heads up. I just posted a video of me doing 111mph in a 6.2 the other day, I love to go fast, just don't like the driveshaft results from doing so.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
