Who would get the V6 instead of the V8 if the MPG were better?

if it got enough return on your money i think almost anyone would go with the v6. could you imagine saving 2k a year in gas over the v8? i just don't think it will ever have that much difference going from v8 to v6, and if it does change the v8 seems to follow along closely in regards to mpg.

all this thread solidifies is that some people will buy a v6 to save a little money and because they wont need a v8, and those with the v8 like to be prepared for anything and consider the savings minimal if at all.

I would figure any W/T model would be a tough sell for resale...most of those trucks are truly worked and probably scare away a lot of average buyers. Im sure their sold wholesale for the most part.

I don't know what you are talking about. My friends and I buy WT or LS trucks all the time. 2002, 2008 and this new one 2014. I never had any troubles selling any of my trucks and I always got good money in the resale. It is like anything else, age, condition and mileage. Sometimes they are more easer to sell because they were originally purchased for less.

Dealers in CT are having a very hard time finding good second handle vehicle to put on their lots.

The question is how do you use your truck? Do you take care of it, or do you use it solely as a work truck? That was my point. If you could care less that the interior gets soiled, stained and dirty and the bed gets tore as you mentioned about condition, then yes, you will not get much in return. If a larger portion of WTs are sold as fleet trucks, government vehicles, contractor work trucks and farm trucks, most likely they are not treated the same as your typical decked out LTZ option truck. And with that the WT isnt going to command a high resale....sure purely speculation, but few people buy an LTZ to abuse than those who buy a WT to which im saying those trucks tend to go to wholesale auctions, thus lowering overall resale for the trim.

The person you're speaking to told me I was "poor" for opting to buy a $30K power boat and a $32K truck this year instead of opting to "live a little" and get the LTZ package. (even though my truck has every option in the LTZ package except leather seats and a 5.3l)

He also needs the extra power "just in case", but doesn't even tow. I guess you never know when the need to do the quarter mile 3/4 of a second faster will be the game changer.

BTW Steve- In WI, it's cold. Leather seats are either slippery, or heated and crack from drying out. This, plus the fact I use my truck like an outdoorsman (rather than a commuter car), is the reason I don't buy leather seats.

No issues with my leather seats in Colorado...seat warmers work good in the winter and the vented seats work well in the summer.

I'm confused here. You can't even pull a medium sized camper with your truck, but you're an outdoorsman? Just stop trying to defend your purchase of a v6 already, i was much happier when i knew you were a college graduate who was trying to save some money.

Leather gets to hot in Texas, you could remote start but that cost about 2 MPG, not as comfy as cloth IMO. V6 in a Camaro or Mustang? Well that depends the last 94 Z28 I had was one second slower to 60 or 1/4 mile than a 14 V6 so the sensation of speed is there. The last V6 mustang 6 speed I look at looked just like a GT for 15K less and as fast as hell and got 30 MPG, depends I guess.

Someone already posted the GM stats on V6 portion of sales. Where's this thread going from there? beatdeadhorse_zpsrhsesp89.gif

Brian,

You mentioned owning Camaro's in an earlier post. Would you buy a V-6 Camaro? Just wondering?

I wouldnt but your talking two different animals. plus the camaro weighs almost half as much so 315 might not be so bad. I owned a 10 with the v8, 426hp vs 315 is quite the difference.

Yeah thats why Ill probably never get an LTZ or lariat or whatever. I dont just dont care for the feel of it. It looks nice and is an easy clean. But at the end of the day its either cold, hot, or sticky.

Sure, but the same collection of folks who wouldn't buy a V6 in a truck probably resemble the same group who wouldn't buy a V6 in a Camaro or Mustang....some people just like HP, performance, the feel of Muscle, and upper end luxury and at the end of the day, could give a damn of what it costs.....I think this gets lost rather easily by a choice few on this very thread. I really could care less if anyone here chooses to buy a V6, I've stated that many times before, but when you make arguments that you're doing so to save money, then on the other hand brag about how you drive around all day with E85 in a V6 and claim how much power it has when it still has less power as a 5.3 on regular dino gas, but now gets less MPG....you lose credit with your argument at that point.

I prefer leather over cloth for it's ease of cleaning, but yes leather is fairly fragile, whether it gets gouges, cracks, or flakes. Cloth has it's own set of issues with staining, tears, pills and shows wear sometimes as bad as leather. Each has it's plus and cons, but leather exudes luxury and in a higher end truck, I would just expect to have leather.

You're confused because you're not an outdoorsman, you're apparently using a pickup truck as a luxury car because it's "trendy".

I bought a $30K car last year, a $30K truck this year, a $30K boat this year, and I'll be buying another $30K truck next year. That's $120K on vehicles spread over three years. I won't drive a truck 4 years and 6 years is the longest I've ever owned a boat. Does it sound to you like I'm "pinching pennies" or "trying to save some money because I'm poor"?

I don't "camp". I have my own cabin on water, and when I want to be on other water, I rent nice cabins. (4-6X, every year) I don't need to tow a camper. If I did, I'd buy a bigger engine in my truck.

My biggest boat has a 150hp motor and can easily pull tubers and skiers, but I have a total of six boats. Two power boats, two canoes, one kayak, and a paddle boat. Four of the six might need to go in the back end of the truck, so I need a full size.

What I mean buy not really wanting the leather trim and the upgraded interior is some of the best times of my life are talking friends and my son to remote back waters and sloughs to fish for bass and hunt for ducks. We have to jump out of the canoe into the sloughs and backwaters to traverse beaver dams and dead fall. Get sandy, muddy, dirty. Driving back into these areas, the sides of my truck get scratched up. Between that, and trading them in every 3 1/2 years, I'm not exactly maximizing economy anyway.

Whether I have the fancy interior and exterior and resale are sort of irrelevant. I use a truck like men used to use trucks- not as the "new Beamer".

You guys throw out "Better to be prepared than not!" and I have to laugh. For WHAT? I've been towing boats around for 30 years, never once have I needed more than the 6700lb tow capacity I have with this truck.

Maybe you should start accepting the fact that some people might have different needs and wants than you do. If I wanted your truck, I'd own it.
