Visual quality on backup camera!

Is there really a problem with this video image? Twice as good when sunny, just as good at night. Looks good to me.

 

My image on my 2016 looks like this in the day. No issues.

 

But the picture is very grainy at night.

 

Is that normal?

Former 2010 F150 had way better resolution and better graphic overlays for lining up a trailer & parking straight. But that's the ONLY thing I miss.

A grainy picture display is from not enough light, phone cameras do the same thing.

Agree that the video quality/resolution sucks for what these trucks cost. Anyone who feels they are fine, try using it to hook up to a trailer and get the ball under the tongue and you'll quickly see what some of us mean.

 

For general backing up to see what is behind you i agree it's adequate, but again when trying to see whether your under the ball, it's not good. It gets me in the general vacinity, but i still have to get out and check a few times. It could be better. Id upgrade if one that was plug and play was available

Since getting truck, I've used camera to get "dead on" every time I've hitched up a trailer. Not once have I had to get back in truck to maneuver truck to hitch up.

It really does matter what you have to compare it too. My '15 Sierra cam is way better than our '13 T&C cam so I haven't even noticed. I guess distance isn't very easy to judge but I've kinda assumed that's how they all were. Guess I'll need to see how they are in different vehicles.

I just got done spending 20 minutes buffing the crap out of camera lense. I took it out of handle and unplugged it from harness, used plastic scratch remover on 3” wool buffer. When I got my 2015 Sierra HD new the camera was great. As time went on it got crappier and crappier. Found out there is a coating on lense that gets scratched up pretty bad with the New York salt in the winter. Put it back in after polishing and Wow, just light new. If you take it off you will see it, unbelievable. Can’t tell just by looking at it unless you take it out. Beats the hell out of buying a new one hope it last’s a while.

I just had the dealer replace mine (2016) under warranty.  Problem solved.
