2014 Sierra vs 2015 Silverado - help me pick!

Hey guys first post. Just sold my old 2000 Silverado and looking to get a new ride. I wasn't really planning on getting a new one until later, but one thing lead to another and now I am.

Started off looking at 2014 Silverados for a "year end deal", but just can't stand that honeycomb grill. I started looking at GMC and really like the way it looks, but of course not as much bang for your buck. I have a friend that is a sales manager at a Chevy dealership and he is giving me a pretty good deal on a 2015 Silverado.

So it's really come down to a similar truck since the 2015s have kind of repackaged some of the things that you had to get in special packages on 2014

So is there any wisdom in the better way to go between a comparable 2014 Sierra vs a 2015 Silverado ? (2015 Sierra quoted at 1500 more)

I also realize I could get an aftermarket grill, but I have no idea what that would actually cost me because I have never really been a person to accessorize a truck. I just don't think I could handle 10 years of that chrome honeycomb grill!

I went into this focused on a 2014 and now I can't believe I'm looking into a 2015. It has made me consider getting by on a loaner until the March/April time frame when the 2015s could start dropping a little .

Im curious too. i prefer the sierra. i think the front of the new silverado looks like the family truckster from national lampoons vacation. but thats just me haha

What models are you looking at? Base or some upgrades?

I'm looking at the LT compared to the SLE

on the 2014s a lot of them have a "LT Convenience package" that included things like movable pedals, universal home remote and a few other things that I didn't want to pay for. The 2015 Silverados now have a "WT/LT convenience" which isn't as bad.

Another thing I noticed was you never see the Nav unit listed on the GMC, but the Silverado will show it. The NAV upgrade on the 14s was 995 and on the 15s it's half that. I personally don't want to pay for NAV. I have heard it's good, but I can get by with my phone. Ideally, I could find a 2015 Silverado with all of the things I want and not have $495 NAV built into the MSRP so that I could get my bottom dollar lower

The Z71 grill don't have the honeycomb.

you will get a better deal on the 14s untill about feb or march.

honestly, minimal changes from what i see, ide be more concerned with getting the build you want. if you can wait do a custom order, if they ahve one thats the build you want go for it.

my next truck will be a full custom build, and ill be able to wait for it. probably late 2016 and if not then ill be keeping mine for 8 yrs or so.

trade her while shes worth more or run it to the ground.

while price plays a pretty big role in buying a vehicle get the truck that you like the best. whether that means buy the cheaper one or the one that is optioned better for you. if you buy the cheaper one that is "good enough" instead of the other then you will be kicking yourself down the road. as far as replacing the chrome honeycomb grille it is really not that hard and relatively not that expensive.

also FWIW I have a 14 with HD radio which I use 99.999999999% of the time so a 15 would be out of the question for me. but I live in Houston so the HD radio reception is decent and I don't have radio issues like some people on here. if you live in a rural area then maybe drive the 14 where you normally drive and see how the reception is. you might find that the reception is sub-par and opt for the 15 instead which does not have HD radio. and make sure the truck does not vibrate at highway speeds.

Thanks guys. For those of you that follow the market closely year to year, when would you expect the next round of rebates to hit for the 15s ? April ? I thought one other plus to getting a loaner and waiting would be the extra 1000-2000 or so I could potentially get in trade assistance bonus

If its just the grill that bothers you thats an easy fix. However if its the full styling of the front end you dont like... thats hard to fix and worth spending the extra 1500$ on IMO

You'll get some "deals" on major holidays like Memorial Day and 4th of July but in my experience, the best deals come at the end of a model year around August/September before the next model year trucks start arriving. I bought my '14 in February and if I'd waited until August, I could have either saved a few thousand more dollars or gotten more truck for the price I paid. Live and learn I guess......

I buy in Oct, for left overs or Dec for deals of the current year, if I don't save at least 10K I move on. I have been buying at the same dealer, Geneses for the wife, GMC for me they know what I will pay and point me to the deals they have.

In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten the Silverado over my Sierra only because of the horrendous headlights on the Sierra. Now, if GM would come out with a fix, or at least say they will, then I like the Sierra better.

Of the two, I would go with the Silverado Z71. The best looking GMC currently available is the All Terrain packaged Sierra.

It's your money, shop around and buy what works for you. Some guys like blondes other prefer brunettes.....Some guys like the honeycomb some don't, some like A/T grilles some don't. You have to balance esthetics with practicality. What's important to you? If you drive a lot at night I think the Silverado headlights are better. While I love the look of the Denali and A/T, I found the Silverado LTZ to be more practical. The chrome bumpers don't chip like painted ones, and the headlights are more efficient. As much as I like the look of the G.M.C.s the red lights in the dash annoy me. I like the blue in the Silverado a lot more. Not a big deal to most folks, but I spend a lot more time looking at them than I do looking at the outside of the truck.
