MPG dropping in wnter

Yep! Same deal here. I lost close to 4 mpg.

Last winter it was a pretty notable drop, this winter with about 18k miles on the motor it's less noticeable. Last year I think I was getting 16 to 17 city, now it's more like 17-19 depending on how warm it is. If I remote start the truck a lot obviously it kills the mpg a little more.

Winter Gas.. I filled my truck up at my friends farm after I drove for a trip and his farm tanks still had summer gas.

 

My millage went right back up to 17-18 average.

 

Then right back down when I put winter gas back in.

 

It's not the temp it's how bad these engines adjust for this winter blend gas.

 

The outside temp does have some effect on MPG's. I always get worse fuel economy the colder it get's (even after all fluids have warmed up). If it's -20F I'll be lucky to get 17 MPG on the highway. If it's 40F I'll get 19. This is driving the same road at the same speed.

It's winter fuel and also the fact that cold air is more dense meaning there's more air in the same surface area. More air meaning more fuel is needed to burn so that means less fuel mileage. Also letting is warm up will contribute to less mileage. Right now I'm averaging around 14.5 with mostly town driving. In the summer I get around 17 or more with mostly town driving.

Weve built three hotels in Timmins... Holiday Inn,Hampton Inn, and the New Best western by the college/airport.

All in the last 2 years.

My friends are In the Albian sands project as carpenters out there. I live in Oakville Ont.

Thanks, yes I noticed a pretty good drop. I never knew the 'winter gas' was the reason.

Haha, yea I feel ya. I get about the same in the summer but my commute is like 3 miles in the morning so I get like 10-11 MPG right now on the way to and from work.

Like clockwork, the temps have gone up above freezing and my mileage is getting better.

Is E85 affected by the "Winter Blend"? If not then the winter blend gas and E85 might get close to the same mpg.

I live in the burbs, nothing but stop signs and lights and the mpgs sux. I get around 11 to 12 mpg , I also have a house in tn where you can get real gas and the mpgs are 16 to 17 but that is a lot of non stop driving
