Just got off the phone with Bilstein and was told the 6112 will not be available until mid year. Still in testing.

What a joke lol They continue to push it back. Not sure my buddies and I can hold out since they just might push it back again mid year. Oh well. Time to start looking elsewhere..

I'am looking at Icon now. The reason I wanted the 6112 was because of the softer spring. The problem with these trucks is the coils are to stiff a shock alone can only do so much.

I'm pretty sure the stock coils are around 500lb/in and I can almost guarantee that Bilstein will use the 650lb/in for the 6112's seeing how this is what they use for other trucks. Fox uses the same coil on the 2.0's and I couldn't justify waiting any longer so I ordered them instead. Also because I believe the coating on Fox shocks holds up a lot better than Bilsteins in Canadian weather.

Was actually told from a few retail places that with billstein coming out with a full coilovers replacement they might not even spool the 6112 for GMs. He said it's possible but with the push backs he thinks the coilovers will come out instead, as the setup for a Tacoma in a 6112 runs about 650.00 so in following the pricing the 6112 won't be cheap for GMs for sure.

The stock coils on my truck were about 850 #/in. The standard coil ICON uses is 700 and I believe King and Fox use a similar rate. In all cases if you do more towing and less offroad driving you can ask for a stiffer spring and they can set you up. It'll be interesting to see what Bilstein ends up with.

Just going by what I was told from Bilstein. They said the springs where softer than the oem spring.

Have you installed the Fox yet ,if so how do you like them.

How'd you calc that? I've never heard of stock coils on any truck being that high.

I was in a 15 Tundra Pro yesterday that comes with bilstein shocks with external res and bilstein springs and the ride is so much better than my truck its no comparison. Went over the same places that my truck is rough and could not feel the bumps in the Tundra. One place that my truck feels like the front end almost leaves the ground at highway speed, Its crossing a abridge the approach. If I would have had my eyes closed I would have never knew I crossed it in the Tundra. Gave me a sick feeling. Guess I will look to fox or Icon. The Icon's are about $1500 for the front so will look at King too.

I'm still waiting to receive them, also I no longer own a Sierra so my review of them wont be too spot on for your application.

 

My Sierra rode incredibly rough over everything which is part of the reason I traded it.

I had a Tundra before the GMC. I like my truck alot but knowing what I do now wishing I had Got another one.

Just talked with Icon the 71505 has a 700lb #/in. spring. The 71505 is the extended travel ,they don't make the standard travel 71500 anymore. They said the droop stops would not have to be cut out, and work with both aluminum and steel UCA. The man I talked with has a 14 GMC and said he would be installing them on his truck in the next couple of weeks. He told me to call him back and would let me know what he thinks about them.

New to the forum I currently have a rough country 2in level on my 2014 Sierra would it be possible to add the bilstien 5100s set at an inch or so to give me about a 3in level?

    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!
