So any update on this? I'm trying to talk my GMC dealer into ordering the io3->io4 upgrade to add XM radio. Website says it'll work in 2014-2015, so I guess a 2016 Sierra should work too?

Ya...we're good on the 16's. Feel free to shoot me a text and we can discuss further

Does anyone know where to find an 8" replacement screen for the 2016 Canyon? and the module to go with it? I just want to upgrade the 4" screen to the 8" screen. I don't really care about the navigation. I have IO4 now (4" screen w/Intelilink). Thanks. All I can find on the internet are for Sierras/Silverados. Nothing for the Canyon.

We can help with Colorado/Canyon as well. Way late post I know, but for anyone else looking to do the upgrade..just shoot me a text

Thanks Anthony. I just passed your contact info to my dealer. They're being a bit of a pain (surprise), so he wants to verify with you that this will do what we need.

Sounds good, just tell them to text me if they can't get through. Phone never stops ringing and it can be a challenge to get through

Will do. Should be a guy named Tom from a GMC dealership in GA. Nice guy, just wants to make sure there won't be any problems adding this to get me some XM radio before he drops the $$$. Once we get this all done, I'll try to post some pics of the installation here, and keep everyone up to date on how well it works!

All - we got this install done today. Decided to go with an aftermarket sat antenna (the smaller squar-ish "button" type) instead of the OEM sharkfin that MVI included in the kit; didn't want to fool with drilling into the roof just yet. Everything works like a charm: XM, Bluetooth, Pandora, etc. I may try to add the sharkfin sometime later, if I feel the need for OnStar, as I think that's all it does that the aftermarket one doesn't. MVI sent us a link to a full install video, which was nice, as there were no other instructions included. As a tip - watch the entire video before you begin the install. There are a couple of places where they kinda "jump" back & clarify confusing points.

I chose the straight io3 -> io4 upgrade (as opposed to io5 or io6) because I didn't want to lose the physical buttons under the screen, and I also don't have much faith in the longevity of GM touchscreens.

All in all, this thing is awesome. It does exactly what it's supposed to do: adds factory options to the base radio. Only gripe I have (and it's a GM problem, not MVI) is that it defaults to the rear view cam when I put it in reverse. As I didn't go for the back-up cam, it just displays an error. No big deal; it only does it while in reverse. Thanks MVI (& GM can SHOVE IT)!

Speaking of antennas. Does anybody know the name of the antenna connector (what type of jack) on the OEM radio module? 'Old school' and aftermarket radios have what is called a "motorola" jack. Has the metal prong at the and of the antenna cable that is inserted into the back of radios. I want to add a second antenna, but it has the motorola jack. Need to find an adapter to go from OE radio module to an antenna splitter. Searched Metra.com, but the images don't look right. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the write up man. Glad you're in and working.

Also..for everyones knowledge we just put together a very long, very, very detailed video on this install. Wire by wire...so going forward this should help greatly.

Here is the public version we created for Tahoe...if you purchase the kit, you'll get the very long full length to view as many times as needed.

As usual TEXT me for any questions at all.

Hey everyone. I wanted to announce that we now have a new I03 (Small Screen) upgrade to I0B available that will take you to the 7" HD Screen WITH CarPlay / Android Auto.

We have noticed through testing that the I0B screen appears to have better clarity than the 8" screen does and we can offer this WITH Carplay / Android Auto for about the same price as going to the 8" screen.

Check it out!!

We can also then add camera and HDMI Input!!

Did the upgrade last week from an IO3 to IOB. MVI ships internationally which is awesome because they don't offer anything like this in Canada. Worth it for me, since the only option was to go aftermarket and those cost more up here or are poor quality. It's been working great for me. Vehicle is a 2017 Silverado WT.

Hey All,

I’m a new owner of 2015 Sierra Base. I’m looking to do the upgrade.

I currently have a 4” w IO4 module. I found a 8” screen and IO6 HMI Module on a SLT in a salvage yard. Would that be plug n play for me?

Thanks for the help.

Hey guys. I have a 2018 sierra with the 7"screen. Has bluetooth and back up camera. Got no sticker in the glove box to verify radio type. But i got an 8" screen and hmi as well the cd player and power box behind radio screen. Came out of a 2017 ltz at the wrecking yard. I want to add this to my truck. When i pulled the factoey radio out to do the swap i found the harnesses are tottaly different. Is there another harness i need to buy? Also with the fact that the radio stuff is from a chevy.... will that make any difference in the gmc? Any help would be great thanks

    • I am sure that was quite the pass experience and not a great place to experience during the winter when the conditions are not good. I've seen video of that pass and also more detailed information and pictures about the wrecks at that one hair pin turn where tractor trailers have flown right off the cliff and I am sure from all the warning signs that you know the exact curve that was !. After all there is a reason why a song was made about Wolf Creek Pass !. By the way and I didn't realize this either when I bought my truck as its nothing I even thought of that would be programmed into the cruise control and this occurs in either the basic or the more advanced cruise that controls your distance behind a vehicle and that is the brakes going down a hill are being applied as soon as the vehicle goes a certain speed over the set cruise speed. While it certainly does force downshifts in the transmission as you found out with cruise on while going down hill, its also dragging the brakes as needed to keep the speed controlled to what the cruise was set to. For me, I find that unsettling simply because I have no concept then as to how MUCH brake input is being used a and just how hot are those brakes getting and the wear factor as well. I can see that system getting a person into trouble on long mountain grades while pulling a trailer as it would not only be standing on the brakes of the pickup without any driver input, it would also be automatically applying the trailer brakes and it could cause a run away unit by overheating the brakes. Its one thing on a shorter hill and if the driver allows it to do its thing but on a long mountain grade is where things could get so out of hand. As someone a while back on this forum said, they had someone following them at night I believe on a down grade and had the cruise set and the person behind them could see the brake lights being energized all the way down the hill. I figured when I saw your comment that you didn't know and would have no way of knowing that your truck was applying the brakes and that you would and rightfully so assume you only used the brakes when you pressed on the pedal to slow down more than the cruise set speed for the slower sharp curves. So its good knowledge to know this about the newer GM trucks, certainly when doing any descending on long mountain grades. In the future try kicking off the cruise and use the the manual mode on a pass to see what that is like as I know myself when I first experienced it I thought no way can this engine be holding me back this well and tried the same hill in manual mode and sure enough the engine was revving way up and still could not hold the trucks speed down like it could in cruise mode.    Fuel mileage, that is where a really low sleek type of car can do better at higher speeds, certainly it starts sucking fuel too but a tall pickup is pushing massive amounts of air and also allowing a lot more air under it and the tow mirrors as in elephant ears pushing through the wind  as well. Driving like grandpa is about as good as one can do when driving one of these if trying to get the best fuel economy they can. I bet these trucks would get the best mileage they can if driven on a freeway in Florida if not busy traffic at a sedate speed and that sea level elevation without hills, vastly different then Colorado !.
