Hello everyone.

 

I have never owned a truck, but I've always had an interest in them, especially the GM trucks.

 

The only knowledge I had was just some photos and tech info by reading from time to time, when a manufacturer releases a new model. Watching some review videos, and reading their tech, info and features, that's it.

 

Last year, I decided to register a truck forum and I chose F150 forum. The reason was totally the sales number of them. Other than that I often read some news about GM recalls. I thought F150s are the most reliable with a low depreciation and decided to learn about F150s before owning one.

 

Because I am a seaman, I have quite some time at home when I am on vacation. Sitting at home all day and reading forums. I got lots of info about F150 trucks last year. And after reading about new F150, I found out quite a lot failures on the vehicle, like any other newly introduced vehicle. Then I understood F150 is a truck like the others, no difference. Just like every new product, it has some issues, too. But still over 95% of people are happy with their trucks. So, after seeing the problems with F150, I decided to register gm-trucks.com to see what GM owners think about their vehicles and what problems are there with the vehicle. I've read plenty threads and comments all week and find out similar percentage of people are complaining about their vehicles.

 

Then I come to conclusion, the only thing matters is design and personal preference. By means of design, I've always been a fan of GM trucks. So, I decided to stick with gm-trucks forum for now and I am still reading. I am trying to learn these trucks as much as possible.

 

I don't think I will buy a truck in near future. Actually, it all depends on the oil price. I am planning to get in oil & gas industry. With these oil prices, it is impossible to get a job in oil & gas right now. Good truck is a requirement in that industry, especially in Alberta. As soon as I get in oil & gas, my plan is to get a well equipped Sierra.

 

My favorite truck: Sierra Denali.

 

Since they put Magneride suspension on them this year, and 2-3 inch leveling is one of my priorities on trucks, I would probably choose a fully equipped SLT with all-terrain package and then change the grill on it.

Welcome to the forum! There aer plenty of us on here that "used to" have or "used to like" plenty of other trucks, hell I was one of them. Like you said though, they all have quirks and it just comes down to personal preference. I used to own a Titan and it VERY reliable, I loved that truck but in retrospect, it was pretty ugly. My brother is a die-hard Ford guy and on several occassions had me convinced into buying an F-150. Our other vehicle is a Chevy Tahoe that has been rock solid, so based on that and based on the looks, etc... I am also a Sierra owner and I am very happy I got it over an F-150. My my preference! Happy hunting for you new truck when you decide to pull the trigger!

They without a doubt most definitely do, I was a blue oval owner for a few years and spent a lot of time on the forum the OP mentioned above. I'm still a member on it, but don't really log on anymore beyond checking in on parts I have for sale there lol. Both are great sites for the respective brands to learn about the trucks, good choice on both for education sake.

Yes, same amount. I collected so much info for the previous generation F150. What exhaust to put on, tires, bed cover and so on. I saved a lot of info on my Office OneNote for F150. There are threads, heavy with info on exhausts, lifting/leveling, tires on F150 forum like here.

 

And after I registered here, I collected same amount of info, maybe even more, here and saved all of them on a separate sheet in Office OneNote. Now, all I need is a job in oil & gas, then I am good to go..

 

I am always crazy with the latest model of a model. To me it is the best to buy a model when it gets a facelift with a major update, which I think will happen for Silverado/Sierra end of 2017. I am expecting HID headlights on SLT and Denali trim levels of Sierra and push button start maybe. For sure some updates on the grill and bumpers. Even if it is time for me to buy something this year, I might go buy a very basic previous generation F150 for temporary use, just to pass the time until major update of Silverado/Sierra.

I have had several, last one was a '09ltz crew that I loved, but once I sat in a 14 with the upgraded stereo, big screen, and safety features, I just had to have it. They did me right on trade, and rebates.

Actually I meant, the latest year of the model, just before the new one has been introduced. They usually fix all the issues to the end of model year. For example, 2013 model must be a good one. But of course you should like the shape, too.

 

I like this generation. And the latest model year of this one will be really good one, which might be 2019 model year.

 

It is like buying a previous generation F150 in Platinum edition right now, with all those nice 10,000+ USD rebates.

Actually, not exactly an Albertan. Of course, I would love to, but not yet. I just put my future hometown there not to forget later. I am still in Istanbul, but will be there in April. Hardly catching Edmonton Motor Show. Most probably will be visiting the event on April 12th, on Sunday.

 

I am really looking forward to sit in a Caddy CTS, which is one of my favorites. And for sure I will be seeing GM and Ford trucks.

Ha! That's what I traded in to get my truck. I like the way they look too, and wanted to love my car, but she gave me WAAAY too many issues for a car that I only put 60K miles on. I am glad she's gone!

I am still considering going to that despite past years have been shopping trips to Edmonton for that event, but since I think I decided on a GM for sure If I go again this year it'll be for the cars probably.

Was that the current generation, the direct rival for 5 Series/E Series? If that was the car, then again it is too risky for me to consider to buy one in her first year.

 

I spent quite a lot time in cadillacforums, while I was on ship for a few months and Caddy owners have lots of issues with their cars. It looks like owning an Alfa Romeo in Europe. They have issues, but nobody cares, everybody likes them.

 

Anyways... Caddys are too far for me for now. I need to make some bucks first. Owning one is not the thing maybe, but high depreciation, and I think it is much more in Canada than in U.S., is the thing. Like all fancy cars, you lose a lot..
