Concerns about buying used 2014 out of warranty

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and come from a Toyota Tacoma. Looking to get into a full sized gm and have been pricing out Sierra All Terrains. I live in Canada so the prices I mention are going to be higher than what you would expect.

Ill start with what I was offered.

2015 SLT Sierra All Terrain - $59,000 - $8500 = $50,500

2015 SLE Sierra All Terrain - $53,000 - $9100 = $43,900 (not really a fan of the lack of features and leather)

Then I came across a local dealership selling a 2014 SLT Sierra All Terrain with 73,000km (45,360 Miles) Which is out of the bumper to bumper warranty that goes until 60,000km. This truck is listed at $32,900 and I'm guessing I could get them closer to $30,000 on it.

Is it a big risk buying this truck for a discount of over $17,000 new seeing how it doesn't have a warranty? It seems most of the issues people are having are not related to power train so I am scared I will buy this thing and all the gizmos and gadgets will stop working.

If anyone has an early build 2014 can you please post your issues you've had in an attempt to scare me out of buying this truck?

I dont think so, people buy used vehicles everyday. Its not like once things go out of warranty they break. You still got power train for another 50-60k miles and see if the dealer will sweeten the deal with an extended bumper to bumper warranty.

But your talking about two trucks, one is half the cost, that really affects the wallet.

45K on a year old truck? Wow. Not sure if GM Canada offers GMPP warranty but GMPP covers just about anything on it. Got a dealer website link to the truck?

I have an early build, Sept. 2013, and have had zero issues other than recalls. I'm very happy with my truck.

I am guessing someone traded it in on a new f150, because its at a ford dealership. I would assume they put a lot of km on so they just lease for a year at a time.

Well GMPP Rep wasnt much help...

Sheri P.: Hello Jordan. Thank you for contacting GM of Canada. My name is Sheri P., how can I help you today?

Jordan: Hi I am wondering about purchasing gmpp

Jordan: I am looking at a used 2014 gmc sierra that has 73,000km and is out of warranty and I would like to add some warranty to it if I buy it

Sheri P.: Thank you for your loyalty to General Motors. You can purchase GMPP at any General Motors dealership , there would be different plans available to you . Did you need me to locate a dealership in your area ?

Jordan: I know where one is

Jordan: I am just wondering if I can do this now that it is out of warranty? or did it have to be done before the warranty expired?

Sheri P.: Usually it should be done when you are within warranty but the dealership might have options for you .

Jordan: Ok I will ask them, thank you

to buy GMPP your vehicle either has to be under factory warranty or done through the GM dealer you are buying it used through at the time of sale.

since its at a Ford dealership they will likely offer you a aftermarket extended warranty. some of those companies are tough to deal with, and replace parts with refurbs and aftermarket.

Yup. Got to do it before the 3/36 expires unless it's GM Certified used.

Its got a good service record on it. Three open recalls though.

As in this specific truck does? Or the 2014 sierra in general?

You have a right to be concerned. You can buy a brand new leftover '14 for that here, as long as you like white and red. No way
