Has anyone ever requested to have a truck from a certain assembly plan

Absolutely. The first character shows country of origin. 1 is US, 3 is Mexico.

My son has a 2012 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab assembled in Flint. I don't know how many 2014-2015 1500's have been assembled there though, if any?

 

I would also imagine it might be just the Chevy's since that is much higher volume than the GMC's?

Flint is overflow production. I've seen several 1500 crews with the flint sticker in the door. There is a guy on here that has a 2014 1500 Crew from Flint in the US/Mexico build tally thread.

 

There are GMC 1500 crews from Flint also, just more Chevys because like you said, they produce more of them to begin with.

Been in that plant and have seen the assembly process from start to finish too.

Oshawa doesn't build trucks anymore, and didn't build any of this bodystyle.

 

When GM first started building the 1500 crew with the short (5'8") box, they were all made in Oshawa.

1 is made in usa

3 is made in mexico

The 11th digit also signifies the assembly plant location.

 

F = Flint

G = Silao

Z = Ft Wayne

I'm not upset my truck was made in Mexico. Most of the materials were sourced from the USA anyway.

You might want to read your window sticker. Mine was assembled in Ft Wayne and I will quote below.

 

"PARTS CONTENT INFORMATION

 

For vehicles in this carline:

U.S./Canadian parts content: 40%

 

Major sources of foreign parts content: Mexico 51%

 

Note: Parts content does not include final assembly, distribution, or other non-parts costs.

 

For this vehicle:

Final assembly point:

Roanoke, IN U.S.A.

 

Country of origin:

Engine: United States

Transmission: United States"

 

 

So that looks like 91% from North America (United States, Canada 40%) (Mexico 51%), which still leaves us with another 9% made elsewhere, China maybe?

 

Each year that goes by, less and less content is made in the U.S. and Canada. Check your window sticker for the crew cabs, as I know for a fact that Silao has a transmission line as well. I can't imagine they would send transmissions all the way from Toledo, when they build them in Silao? I know we send more parts to Silao than Toledo every day.

Silao and Toledo build 6L80 transmissions; Ramos Mexico, Tonawanda NYand ST. Catherines Ont build L83 engines.

The 8L90 8 speeds are made in Toledo. The L86 6.2's are built in St Catherines Ont and Tonawanda NY.
