Quick Help - 5100 Snap Ring Position Question

That spacer is not 1/4" from what I can see in the picture. The bolt holding the shock in place is a 10 mm diameter. That spacer is at least that thick. I'm thinking you have a 1/2" spacer and that equates to a 1" lift. Then you had the shocks at their 1.8" setting. That's about 2.8" of lift. Your setup moved the A arms into an angle that provides less mechanical leverage on the spring. "pre-load" schme-load. That aint the issue here.

It looks like about 3/8th to me. Either way the problem could be that his suspension is topping out quicker on bumps when the tires leave the ground. 5100 with compressed springs and spacers do not go good on these trucks seems to be the consensus. Instead of lowering the spring perch he should have removed that spacer. The suspension was not designed for a longer strut.

I had mine done by a local shop and had the snap ring set in the highest position.......for some reason when I got the truck back it didn't seem as high as I thought it should be. It was cold, snowy and just miserable for the next few weeks so I thought nothing of it. Once the weather cleared up a bit I took a look at my front shocks and noticed that the shop must have moved the snap ring to another position. Kinda pissed me off but the shop didn't charge me because it's a family friend. So I am baffled at what level my truck is at.... I took a pic and was wondering if anyone else with the same front shocks could take pics of the snap ring locations so I don't have to disassemble the front end again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It looks to me like I am down one notch from the highest setting which would be 1.26"

Cliff14Denali,

I just installed the 5100's on my 2014 Silverado LTZ. It looks like your snap ring is set in the second position from the top. If it was in the top position you would not be able to see the groove.

I'm thinking he is set on the bottom or second to bottom. I have mine on the second from the top and I cannot see any slots above at all. I can only see one slot below the spring seat.

It is hard to tell. I was looking at mine and with it in the highest setting, there are no grooves above the spring seat. With his you can see one groove so it looked like it might be down one.
