Buying a new 2500HD, couple questions for you guys

Hey, I'm Tom

I'm going to be buying a 2500HD, whether is chevy or GMC I'm not sure yet. A local dealer has a Sierra with a fisher stainless v plow, has every option I want except amber roof markers. my first question is how hard is it to add these? I'm good at wiring and stuff, that's not an issue.

My second (and more important) question is I live in the northeast, we have gotten nailed this winter. For whatever reason the dealer used this truck to plow. they probably had no choice, we just have gotten SO much snow here in boston. So now it has 510 miles on it. This is no longer a brand new vehicle. How much of a discount do you guys think i should get? Plow still looks new, not all scratched or anything. The sticker with the plow is around 46, they are offering it at 44 (obviously i know i can beat them down more) but I feel it should be sold for quite a bit less because it's technically used.

It would not be a deep ocean blue with a v plow. In my opinion it is used and should be treated price wise as used.

NE dealers are a tough bunch moneywise ...

Plow is about $7000 installed (list) +- depending on size

so truck sticker should be about $39,000 +-

I'd like 20% off the truck list (used) - 10% is more typical in the NE for HD trucks (new)

so used Truck at $36,000 and used Plow at $5000 = $41,000 (TOPS) for me

If you can wait another month (warmer weather) you may get it for less if some else doesn't buy it

If the truck does not have the plow prep option GM will disqualify it for warranty if it plows snow, BUT the dealer can give you the FULL GM warranty if they are willing to back it up & put it in writing (the dealer warranty will only be good at the dearship that writes it...)

drive it on the highway at 75 mph to ensure it does not have a drivetrane vibration, as some early built did ...

i agree that you should get a discount for the truck having miles on it... i argued with a dealer who was trying to sell me a denali with 500 miles that it was a used truck, and they would not give any discount. as for the clearance lights, i would try and find a truck that has them personally, i dont know if id be comfy drilling into my new truck. also its only a 55 dollar option from GM!

Pretty good I bought mine brand new 4 miles... Sticker was 59,900 and I payed 47,900 so there's a lot of wiggle room

IMO the plow adds no value, things added to used vehicles never add value.

Roof lights are a pain, added them on my 06 when new. Only a $55.00 option from factory, you will have double that at least aftermarket and probably leak. As mentioned above, check for driveline vibrations. I have a 2015 3500 cc with snow prep package, built in late September, that has the "rumble strip" vibration that I am struggling to have remedied.

You can add clearance lights. Anywhere that you cut will compromise the intergrity of the paint void the paint and corrosion warranty for problems related to the holes.

I'm not sure where to find one, maybe your insurance agent or a buddy in the used car business, but if you can establish an actual cash value for the truck with 510 miles (and depreciated value for the plow) that's where I'd start negotiating. Personally I'd find another truck, 510 miles by someone in "not my truck" is something that I'd rather not hassle with if I'm buying new.

i think it's fairly new as far as having the driveline issue, it has the newer style tow mirrors with the clearance lights on them. i hope to be able to meet them this week and see what they have to say. i'm thinking 37-38 with the plow

It is still technically a new truck. We have a 15 HD and when we are done plowing it will still be sold new as all of them are. It would be the same as if the truck was dealer traded and they had to drive 200 miles to go to the other dealer. Still a new truck if the warranty hasn't been activated (as in purchased).

I don't think whoever was buying it would consider it new after it had 200 miles of plowing on it... Regardless of what whoever did to put miles on it it still has mileage on it and that will bother most people if it's being sold as new

Warranty starts when its registered to the first buyer. You will get three years from when you take delivery.

I am surprised people are getting worked up/worried over 200 miles on an HD, some of which was plowing, That's what these trucks were made to do. Is a discount in order?, Sure but don't expect the dealer to cave just cause he plowed with it.

Don't drill in the roof. If you really want a rig with the marker lights, wait and get one the has the lights from the factory. Potential problems like leaks will potentially cause more problems that 200 mile on the odo at purchase

i'm not worked up about it at all. i don't think it has damaged the truck or anything. i just don't think the truck should be considered brand new. it should be a demo and priced as such

I look at is when i buy a new $40-50K truck new i want it new not a demo not the owners ride till it sells and not have anyone plow with it i want to break it in . and i would want the price to reflect if it was plowed with or driven more than 50 miles. I passed on such a truck except it did not plow but it was the owners ride till it sold.
