Wheel nuts cracked

My dealer replace 8 of them same like yours under warranty. They probably did it when they change the oil and tire rotation.

Makes sense on the short socket causing that. I'd still check with your dealer since they could have done this at one time or another to your truck. Either way, after you get the new wheel nuts make sure you use the right socket!

Sometimes the nut will be both split and 'twisted' (enough that a socket can no longer be fully engaged) from a short or partially engaged socket.

This is one of the reasons when I bought impact sockets for lug I made sure to get deep sockets. It's also to reach deeper depending on the rim.

To be fair, I've never even heard of this type of lug nut before. So had I known, obviously I would have gotten the right socket.

 

This is my first new vehicle, everything else I've owned had regular lug nuts.

This is my first truck and anything that I've had or dealt with that had the long lug nuts like these from the factory. Usually the longer ones are just the plastic overs that screw onto the actual luck itself.

The newest car I've owned before this one was a 2006 Saab 9-2x. Regular lug nuts.

 

Never heard of lug nuts with chrome body condoms on.

I believe my 1977 Camaro had these "decorative" lug nuts. GM used them years ago on cars with "styled' steel wheels and chrome trim rings. Those vehicles using full wheel covers always had the regular steel lug nuts.

Rally wheels were used by GM on most GM "sporty" cars from the 60's to the 80's. Basically silver steel wheels with chrome rings, center caps and lug nuts. Often the chrome capped nuts. Every division had a variant.
