2016 GM to go to a 60k power train warranty

This is the first I've heard of this....It'll be interesting to see if it's true.

 

They could be testing people to see the feedback they get....it would be easy enough to change their mind on something like this..

 

Could be a way to push their premium brands (namely Buick & Cadillac)?

It seems like build quality has fallen and so have warranties.

 

Ya know my truck is just over a calendar year old from it's original purchase date. I've got over 30k miles on it and I'm almost out of my bumper to bumper already... and I just got the truck in November!

 

The reason I still consider it a reliable vehicle is because of that 100k mile warranty. It'll be many years before I hit that many miles.

 

Not because I consider GM unrelialbe, just that a lot of folks on here have had a LOT of quirks on their trucks.. and now to see them cutting back? Concerning.

 

Will it hurt sales? no.. probably not. Warranties are one of those things most people don't even discuss with the dealer that much, or at least I don't.

 

From previous generations of GM vehicles though.. I would say with proper maintenance a GM powertrain is absolutely reliable up to 100k miles and beyond.

If the reliability of the vehicles was improving, then maintaining a longer warranty shouldn't be costing them anything as there shouldn't be additional claims.

 

To me it reeks of trying to cut costs due to long term quality and reliability uses.

As someone who has had to use my 100000 mile/160000 km power train warranty with GM to replace a torque convertor, I wouldn't fault them That would be a deal breaker for me buying a new GM.

Oh I know, I didn't intend to sound critical of them. I see it as a major advantage and it'll only help their sales climb even higher.

Coming from someone who has had to use that powertrain warranty several times on a couple of vehicles, I think it is total BS. I love my GM vehicles, I have had many and my wife to be drives a new Equinox. That being said, so many engines are drinking oil, vibrations are everywhere, and these new DI motors will not last like the older style fuel injected LS series engines. It is no wonder that I'm looking for a 2003-2007 classic truck in the next year or so and can't find one, or they want crazy money for them. They are the last of the easy to work on, cheap parts, and super reliable trucks GM ever made.

 

Whatever happened to "Like a Rock"? Their new slogan should be "Crawl Under a Rock".

I can't disagree with that statement enough. The build quality of my '14 and '15 are miles ahead of my '09 1500 or '14 2500HD.

 

The "quirks" most people are complaining of on here wouldn't be covered by the powertrain warranty anyway. They're stuff that would fall under the 3/36 B2B.

I bet they will too. Who wants to make a bet on how long it takes GM to flip-flop and go back to 5/100? I give them a year at most.

It is just a spell. They know what customers want.

 

the simple 12000 pound five speed has been missing awhile too.

 

some don't even know the spider injection of a 1996 is still running original today..

 

I started off with a heavy half ton, power everything. 1979. Cab mount broke, stuck in gear, the throttle stayed with it...they did not go bankrupt over that one.

It must be to a point, when the generation of gm the trucks lose to wimps, the eco-cars start feeding the truck budget.
