Chime operation

Hi, Just purchased a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. I have the 8" mylink radio/navagation. I understand that the chime sound comes from the radio speakers. My question is does the radio need to be powered up for the door chime to work. If I open the drivers door and put the key in the ignitian the chime does not sound. If I turn the key to on it will chime. Then when I turn it off and the door is open it will chime. Is there something wrong with my ignitian switch or is this how it works? Thanks for any input on this.

Its how it works. The touchscreen always has some power going to it, even with no key. You can't think of it as "the radio". If you open the door, and put the key in, the chime doesn't sound because it is smart enough to figure you are getting in. If you turn the key on, it chimes, which I figure is part of a "system test" like all the gauges sweeping and whatnot. When you turn the truck off and open the door, it chimes to remind you to take your key like old cars.

1st. post. On my 2015 Silverado, if I open the door and put the key in the ignition but don't turn it on, no chime. If I turn the ignition on without plugging in the seat belt, I get the chime. If I plug in the seat belt and then turn ignition on, no chime. I think it is a reminder to buckle up. Even with the radio turned off mine still chimes. I have the chime volumn turned down as low as it will go and it is still too loud. The rest is like CounterMeasure said.

Is it possible to turn down the volume on the chime ? It's a bit loud for my needs.

There is a setting for the chime volume but even set at the lowest level it is still loud as balls IMO ...

I was able to turn down the alarm volume for park assist, but not the seat belt chime. Government regulations at their best (worst).

There is a PI stating that they know about the chime volume and are investigating.

Good. All they need to do is allow us to turn down the volume more. I don't know if there is a minimum per government. I agree that it can't go to zero but lower would be nice.

How do you adjust the park assist volume? I only have rear assist so maybe thats why I didn't see any adjustment for it.

Mine is Settings > Vehicle > Comfort and Convenience > Chime Volume.
