I saw a bed cover the other day at the place that installed my linex bed-liner.. it folded up in sections, maybe 8-10" sections.. was hard.. and didnt take up any bed space when all the way folded up, just stuck up a little behind the windows..

anyone know the name?

or have a better suggestion? i really liked the idea of the hard retractable bed covers until I found out that it takes up a foot of your bed :(

thanks!

Check out Fold-A-Cover. I have a G4 Elite and love it. 4 panel above the rail so you don't have to worry about bed height loss or drain lines. Light but sturdy aluminum and good quality hardware. I've been through some pretty bad rainstorms with it and it doesn't leak. the front and rear panel lock for security and the last 3 panels fold on top of the 4th so you have a lot of access to the bed with the cover installed and since they fold on top of the 4th panel, you still have rear visibility. It's also removable easily with a few bolts if you need the full bed and goes back together without any need for adjustment. I looked around a lot for a cover and this had the most pros and the least cons for me.

I had nothing but an awful experience with Bak. I like the Extang product line. They have a Solid Fold and an Encore cover that get completely out of the way. Sturdier than the Bak product too.

I have a BakFlip Fibermax and like it a lot. It isn't watertight though as some water does leak in from where the rails mount.

Agree, wanted something similar to what I had on my Avalanche (3 hard panels, interlocked, etc.) but the G4 was as close as I could find that offered some degree of security. I "fold" it up when I put my snowmobile in the back this past winter. Then when I went riding, I folded it back out to cover for any snowfall when I was away. Seems like the best system to me.

I have the Gator FX3 hard folding. It's 3 sections and you can fold it against the cab and use prop rods to keep it up against the cab if you need the full bed.

There a few brands that make hard folding covers that open up the full bed when propped against the bed..... Bak, gator, extang, foldacover, etc....

I got mine from tonneaucoversworld.com. they have videos of most covers. None of them are 100% waterproof, so get the one that suits you best

I went with the Fold-A-Cover but I wanted the Caddy storage. It does come off quickly though.. The caddy is raised off of th ebed though so I can fit plywood and drywall in if I need to.

Bakflip would be my choice if I used the hole bed allot.

you got a under cover flex a month ago and love it! nice to have lockable hard cover that is just about 100% water proof. i went with this one vs others because it doesnt rest on cab of truck when opened all the way, had two rods holding it at 90 degree angle.

If you like the retractable style but don't want to loose bed space with a box, check out Peragon. Good prices (699), everything is factory direct. I ordered one and it was delivered Thursday. Cant say enough good about the customer service so far. They called me after my order was submitted to go over the options and make sure it was correct. Then called again the day it was delivered to tell me about some of the youtube videos to help with installation and told me to call them if I had any questions at all. I will post pics of mine shortly. I went with the black cover but you also have the option of matching the factory paint. The fact that it takes up minimal space when open and can easily be removed was the selling point for me.

Heard some bad reviews on BAK due to customer service. The other option I had narrowed it down to was Extang and I was looking at the solid fold. I have one of those on my work truck and I like it.

I wonder how this would look on the titanium metallic. Not a bad price for painted and seems to be pretty good design.

@Coastie743 - what's the install like on the Peragon? I owned a Bak Flip in the past - easy to install but not as water tight as I would like. This seems like a better value for the quality

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
