Can anyone direct me to information on doing a wire tap at the mirror power source on a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500?

Which radar are you planning to use?

I've installed 3 of them in these trucks, so I'm well versed.

Related... I'd like to hardwire a dash cam to a switched 12 volt source (right now it has a cigarette plug on the end of the cable).

Any info on how to correctly do that?

I plan to use a mirror tap for my Redline and use a blendmount like I just installed on my new C7. I should be getting my new SLT in about a week and would like to know what color of wires I need to connect to. I will have power to my mirror since I have auto dimming rear view mirror. Has anyone done this?

I know you're mostly interested in wiring into your rear-view mirror's power (just grab a multimeter and figure out the wires), but a more reliable source is the wire block under the dash. These are already fused so all you need to do it connect your power wire. Here's the main tread on this from MotoMedic.

The 3 I've done (a Denali XL, a SLT and a Sierra Denali) have all been different color wires for 12v. I've used a multi meter to determine which has full 12v bc some wires aren't. The only common is the black ground wire on the upper row, center of the main connector. You'll need the wider gold plated taps. I've also done a 2012 Grand Sport Vette and they require the thin gold plated connectors. The 12" length wire tape will work fine, although 13" would be ideal.

There isn't much to it at all. You just need two small flat blade screw drivers, a phillips and a multi meter.

I am also trying to use a mirror tap to hardwire my escort 360 using my mirror power source. Seems like every wire I test has power, some more than others. The black wire seems to have the most. Anyone ever seen these color wires?post-170799-0-61773700-1490208431_thumb.jpgpost-170799-0-61773700-1490208431_thumb.jpgpost-170799-0-12165600-1490208506_thumb.jpgpost-170799-0-45131500-1490208529_thumb.jpg

I've got the exact setup you're looking for. See this thread.

I linked the wire tap, and posted pics of the blendmount and connection.

Not busting on anyone here but I'm surprised that people still use radar detectors these days. With all the high tech Laser and other speed tracking devices LEO's use, by the time your detector picks up the signal, they have had your speed already for a couple of seconds. The days of constant running radar waves is a thing of the past.

I often get advanced warning when a LEO is in the area. If they're in town, they use radar instead of laser. They also drive with their radar on around me. That said, yes, if they're lasering along the highway, chances are good that you're toast. Of course, LEOs may do something different in different areas.

There is a retained accessory power pin next to the fuse box on the drivers cowl. A blade type connector fits perfectly onto it and you can ground on the chassis a few inches away. I ran my wire under the pillar trim. I can post a picture if anyone needs it

Hey Buddy, Thanks for your help. I may be stupid but as you hopefully can see rom my poor photo's, my connector has 5 wires total in it. In position 1 its black, position 2 its gray, position 3 its green/white that's the top row. then on the bottom row, its purple/white in position 9 and yellow/purple in position 10. (and oddly enough, position 1 which is black, seems to have the most voltage.) Seems like everyone says this is the ground. My test light glows bright red on this position???

I used a mirror tap when I installed this same mount in my Cadillac and it was very easy. One wire was hot and the black wire gave no power signal at all. That's why I'm confused-ha!

In Texas, I've only seen one LEO using a laser.

State troopers religiously use KA band detectors here and local LEOs use K band detectors.

A laser jammer like a Redline & a Valentine 1 would work perfectly paired together like many people do.

Can you give us more info on your truck?

Do you have the auto-dimming feature for your rearview mirror? Do you have lane departure warning system?

If you have the auto-dim feature, you can use the exact pins I used to connect....which hot is the the top row second from the far left....ground is bottom row to the furthest right.

I didn't test for voltage, I just researched here for what other guys did with my system and it worked!

Let me know if this helps.
