Throttle response on 6.2...

Okay, I'll take the bait....

I love internet forums....I've been on them since before the internet, when you had to dial into a bulletin board (who else remembers back that far?). So, I singed up to this one today, hoping to get some intelligent information and maybe share a thing or two.

That being said, when I post a response to a forum, I have two rules that I like to hold myself to.

  • Stay on topic
  • Deal with FACTS (unless opinions are wanted on a particular thread)

So, the original post that started this particular thread was a legitimate concern about "throttle response", not the particulars of physics affecting the ability of a vehicle to spin the tires due to the weight distribution (which was incorrectly stated) or the selection of tires. I think that my reply to the original post dealt with his concern and made no claims to 0-60 times with the scenario that I set...

I feel at home already!

Didn't realize I had thrown bait out there. Guess you might be hungry?

Don't get too riled up here, this is all within the original topic. You posted about how you have experienced positive performance results with your 6.2 after disabling TC and SC, driving in M, and used the fact that being able to break traction as a sort of measurement to how fast/quick the truck is.

... smokes the tires and jumps sideways all the way through first and barks pretty good in 2nd.....It is definitely more than I expected!

But, like my post above said. That's not that impressive in a truck. And I don't see how your reply dealt with his concern about throttle response. OP has already said throughout the five pages here that he is not satisfied with the throttle response on his 6.2. There have been tons of members that came in here, myself included, and voiced our opinions and experience with tuners about how torque management is really hampering the throttle response on the 6.2/5.3.

alright alright, it's starting to smell like piss in here.

neither of you two are allowed to post in this thread until someone else posts something about throttle response! give it time to dry out a little.

Geez, fellas. I had no idea this subject would offend anyone. I like pretty much like everything about the 6.2 Denali. I just didn't like how much I had to get into the throttle to find the torque and get it to go. I felt this even backing the truck and especially while on the 'on ramp' for the interstate. I just really noticed it because I had just got out of my 03 Avalanche, which was more responsive. Immediately prior to that, I drove a 3.5 Ecoboost and made a comment to the salesman that this V6 felt like a torque monster compared to my V8. I just wanted to know what I could do to make this 6.2 feel like it actually had 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque (other than slamming the pedal).

I test drove a new 2015 F-150 ecoboost and was blown away with the throttle response, like almost to much, the truck just about blows the tires off and slams forward with very little throttle, almost to aggressive!

The GM throttle on the other hand is a total slug, GM should be ashamed of their tuning, the motor/trans is great but has the worst timing available.

For those that put down a tune you have NO IDEA what these trucks are like when property tuned!!!

I've had the 6.2L 8 speed for a week.

Coming from a custom tuned Ecoboost I can most definitely say tip in/throttle response is lacking compared to the EB.

I've felt it even backing up into trailer.

I don't plan on getting a tune any time soon.....but I said that about every truck I've owned.

For now I'll adapt...

Get a tune on that 6.2, your gonna like that way it feels.

In truth no one here can say for fact that GM can see flashes, or flash counters.

Wrong! It's been a FACT since 2010.

Don't get a tune then remove it later on. When it's back to stock you're gonna hate it. I guarantee it.

LMAO, I even read your post with that guys voice in my head.

I am on the fence about a tune, never had to get one but I really hate low speed driving with this truck. I can deal with the sloppy shifting going up through the gears and even the gm clunk as I am completely use to it after driving gm trucks for the last nearly 3 decades. But driving at creeping speeds is very unpleasant with this truck. I would rather get 8mpg then have to deal with tunes from the factory that make their product annoying to use.

The main sticking point as with everyone else here on the fence like me is gm can and will most likely use the tune as an excuse to deny everything they possible can warranty wise.

Yea, its definitely a risk albiet, a low one. If I had a 6.2/8spd I would definitely wait at least till 20-25k miles before getting one. We've had a few members on here have their low mile 6.2's grenade.

Coming from a 5.3 I was really upset with the throttler response and overall power output on my 5.3. I disliked it so much I was ready to take a hit on it and trade it in for an 2014 3.5eb. I eventually got a Black Bear tune and the truck just performs and drives so much better now. There is now a ton of torque right at tip-in and even more around 2-4k rpm. I can't imagine how the 6.2 would react to a good tune.

It is a bit embarrassing that my wife's 17 yr old POS Ford Windstar van has better throttle response than my 2016 420hp 6.2 8spd truck. I picked up a Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 part #2000 yesterday and ran the tune on my 2016 6.2 8spd. Unfortunately the options to make changes are very limited at this time on the 2016 6.2 8spd did not realize that when i ordered the stupid thing. Nothing can be changed with the throttle response or transmission settings yet. Hypertech said they are working on getting it updated. I do like the fact that you can set the AFM so it ONLY comes on above the mph speed that you choose, I set mine at 50mph. At least I got that done. Please hurry up with your updates Hypertech I need to be able to outrun my wife in her 17 year old Windstar...................

Someone on another post recently was talking about the hypertech and I really liked the sound of adjusting afm speed as well. I know a range does that, but for $200, you might as well pay the extra 200 and get a handheld tuner. Are these "boxed" tunes the same regarding warranty as custom tunes? More importantly my truck is a lease (which I'm now regretting - but that's a different topic) and I have no idea if I can do a handheld program or not. If I'm going to buy something, I'd just assume be able to deactivate/adjust afm, but also get a bit of extra power....and it would be a bonus to even be able to adjust throttle response and transmission. Currently I don't really have too much of a problem with my 6.2 with the 8 speed, I mean it sure feels like it goes when I get on it! I also have a corsa sport and while it sounds great, it does have some of the v4 drone and chopper at certain speeds/rpms (mostly slower town driving - constantly turning on and off is fairly annoying). It really isn't much of an issue because I just drive in m7 around town so it doesn't kick in and out and put back in drive on highways. Would love to be able to just have it on over certain speeds.
