My review eagle eyes 2014/15 k2 headlights

So I haven't seen this kinda thing around the forums (I'm sure it's here SOMEWHERE but..) and I thought people might want to know about these, as I HAVE seen a lot of people ask about them.. so I figured I'd do a review.

I purchased my eagle eyes headlights from headlightsdepot.com for about $400 shipped. This is a LOT cheaper than stockers from GM, and even used stockers right now.

They arrived from FL in about 3 days and were undamaged. (shew.. I've seen some complaints online about dealing with headlightsdepot on returns, I dunno how founded they are, but I'd prefer not to find out.)

Eagle Eyes headlights are made in Taiwan. Upon first inspection, they have an apparent near-stock quality in build.

Wire harnesses are correct color and gauge, but are routed differently. The connectors for the bulbs are also of seemingly lower, but still functional quality.

The bulbs that come with these are Auto-lite. (no pic, I can't seem to take one thats not blurry.) They are the same size as stock bulbs, which are sylvanias. From looking at them side by side, the coil on the sylvanias has a higher gloss and seems to have coils closer together than the auto-lite bulbs. In my case, I moved my stock halogen bulbs over to the new lights to make the best of the light quality change.

As some of you probably know the GMCs have had a lot of complaints about light quality with the projectors, and this was something I was concerned about, so I figured using my stock bulbs would be the best way to compare apples to apples.

Fit and finish is... medium. Not stock, not near stock, but not "poor" either. In the case of the passenger side, I could NOT get this bolt to line up without applying a good deal of force to the housing.

I also had trouble with this sides connector that connects the harness to the headlamp. The pins in the headlamp harness actually pushed in and almost came out, and when I tried to correct it, the spacer tried to come out. At any rate, with a pair of needle nose and some grunts and muttered obscenities I managed to "rebuild" the connector and get the lamp to work.

(the wrinkles is a clear wrap on the lense, not damage or quality issues.)

The stock headlamp sits inboard of the fender a bit, this lamp, the same one that I couldn't mount properly sticks out a bit. I did not have any of these problems with the driver side, so I'd say this is probably a quality control problem at Eagle Eye.

They work! Light quality in the garage side by side with the open housing (no pic again, sorry) appears to be the same. I'm gonna wait till the sun goes down tonight and take a drive to confirm this.

All in all, if you're doing an hid project or something, or want a pair of headlights that have the stock upper trim look without the bucks, and you're not willing to deal hunt and save your pennies a bit more for OEM, they're worth it.

However.. my personal preference is that if I were to do it again, I'd wait, save my pennies, and buy stock headlights, be it off ebay or a user here, or even paying through the nose for a set from GM.

I have had a set of these for the last two months. Ordered from 1aauto through ebay. Mine fit perfect, definitely must be a quality issue. Also my high beam for my driver side fogged up after about a week, and they sent me a replacement right away. I will agree that the bulb connectors are low quality, and the other issue I had was the dust cap must be larger because with the lights mounted, I could barely get them off and out to change bulbs.

Yea, I really can't say that the passenger side light is indicative of the company, since the other light fit just fine. (still not an OE fit, but a good fit.)

Fogged as in yellow? or fogged as in like water condensation? I noticed what appear to be vent tubes on the back of these that the stock headlights didn't have. That could just be because of the projectors, or there could be something different about these.

Just got back from a night time drive.

A bit disappointing when you're coming from the open beam headlights because those lights are AMAZING.

The eagle eyes light up as you would expect a halogen projector to light up, with the exception of a RAZOR sharp cutoff line. These projectors would be great for an HID kit. I've had halogen projectors before and they're usually very sloppy, these have a line that could cut a tree down it looks like. Mine may be out of alignment, so I don't have a picture of this just yet.

I would say this though.. if you're going this route, HID is recommended.

high beams are as expected and very close to as they were before.

Projectors are not a good rural headlight. These would work fine as is in the suburbs or the city, but out here the cutoff line is concerning. Fortunately, in areas where its a problem you can usually use your brights. about 1/4 of my drive just now was with brights on and had no problem seeing.

It was fogged as in water condensation. I actually put in the silver star zxe lights for both high and low, spent some time adjusting them and I personally think the light output was better than my stock lights but at the same time I had stock bulbs in my OEM lights.

which bulbs are the low beams in this pair you ordered, I ordered a set and am not sure what HID bulb I need to order for them?

The low beam bulbs are the ones in the projector. Standard oem bulb size I believe is h11

I wanted to update this thread.

I called about ordering another set of these today and was told that GM has sued to have these removed from the market, and are unavailable.

Also, I experienced a leak in the driver side after a few weeks of ownership.

I was wondering why no one can fine them anymore. Wonder what this means for any warranty issues we may have down the road.

They must have released these without the consent of GM. Sucks for warranty issues. Looks like since mine haven't been installed yet I'll add a little more caulk around the edges to help with condensation too

Yup, they leak. I used to see water running inside my turn signal on the driver side when I washed the truck.

They were identical, so its not surprising really that GM called it off.

Still kind of a bummer though for those of us who want to do hid projector swaps or retrofits, or customization in general.

    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
    • Yes, the key seems to be with the half tons that if it has the Z71, then it definitely has the two speed. What got me was that the two speed AND the lower geared towing package option could not be chosen together the last few years unless it was mated up to the 6.2. Want the 3.0 duramax and 3.73 tow gears ... nope, can't get the two speed transfer case ( neighbor son realized that after he had bought his used 3.0 half ton .. where the frick is the low range ? ! ).    I am still unsure which truck series, the half ton or the HD truck that the original poster is referring to for sure other than yes his question is in the HD section of this forum but that doesn't guarantee the question got asked in the right section.
