Stabilitrac Issue from lift or tires

What was the re-flash you had done for? I haven't had any service yet and am now reluctant, especially if I want to install a lift. However, if the flash is required (by GM), then I will be in the same boat you everyone else after the lift. It sure would be nice to know the root cause of this; hopefully soon!

I had the updated headlight bulbs and reflash done to put more voltage to the headlights. I don't know if it had any other system updates with it. I am just going to have to wait on BDS to figure it out. I was temped to go to the dealer to have then check the wheel speed sensors with a scan tool while driving when stabilitrack comes on but last time I was there they told me if there was something wrong with them I would get a service stabilitrack or service ABS message. I am beginning to think it really is not worth doing anything with trucks anymore. There are way too many sensors for everything that can be effected. I should have bought a Raptor where everything is done from the factory.

I have a 7.5" rough country lifted knuckle/ rear blocks kit. I run 35/12.50/18 tires on -12 offset rims. I noticed the stabilitrak issue immediately after the install. I also did the install by myself as well. Like most people are saying, it only occurs in tight turns and higher speeds. It does not happen a lot and doesn't really bother me, but if it can be fixed than that's cool......Figure it out guys :fingersx:

since my post at 1347 I have had two incidents. it was very consistent while my wheel was turned all the way to the left. Suddenly I am annoyed.

So unlike many of you, my issue has been constant. My light has been on since the first incident.

Mine was first triggered when I was merging onto the highway and punched the throttle and it's been on ever since. Turns out, I must have run over something while merging because when I went to check my speed sensor wires for nicks or abrasions I got quite a surprise on the drivers side. The line was cut clean through, not a nick, not a pinch, but it looks like someone took a knife and cut right through the wire.

So I guess with that I've found my issue, now I just need to figure out how to get ahold of a wheel speed sensor without having to replace an entire hub... sucks to have this happen with only 2k miles, I don't even recall running over anything but I was merging into traffic so I'm sure I wasn't 100% focused on what was in front of me but instead on the vehicles along side and behind me. :banghead:

For future reference, it appears that the correct part number for the front ABS sensor (works on both sides) is 20971873. Runs around $30 currently although I'm not sure what my dealer price will be just yet.

Both of my ABS sensor wires are worn to the point that the inner wires are showing.... Could this possibly be causing a short when turning? Although I noticed it long before it had worn through the wire.. I may have to order two new ones and reroute them and/or secure them appropriately.

I had this happen on my 15. 2.5 rough country kit stabilitrak came on while turning left. Turned full lock crawled under the truck and found abs sensor cut almost all the way through. When you put the lift in the pitch changes to the point that the cable rubs on the inside of the wheel. I never took the cable out during install it stayed in the factory location. Found out the hard way that I should have checked the routing. Again this is only on the 2.5 can't speak for the bigger (better quality) lifts. talked to a buddy of mine that's a gm tech he said don't even try to bring it in for warranty. cable is only 30 bucks on gm direct parts. Definitely need to move the cable down on the clamp to stop from rubbing though.

The weird thing is, mine isn't rubbed through, pulled or worn. It looks like I took my knife and sliced it.

Sounds like thats your issue.

It is unfortunate you may never know what really happened, but what if it was something that has been there all along? maybe it got caught between the control arm ball joint and the knuckle? who knows. Although my wires are worn through people are still having issues without wear.

There wasn't any mud on the slice but there was mud all over the wire itself. It hasn't been there for long. I took the truck off road a few days before the incident and haven't been out since.

The people having issues, I was speaking with the techs at my dealership the other day. We're thinking that the yaw sensor is beyond it's maximum limitations for safe operation. This may be due to excessive lean angles or perhaps due to the leveling out of the truck that is causing the sensor to "zero out" in an in correct range.

A possible fix may be as simple as shimming the sensor. Until we have a truck we can study it's nearly impossible to tell however.

I read someplace that you can get a programmer that disables this feature. I wonder if it can be done with a black bear tune? Can anyone chime in on it....perhaps Jenna from Blackbear?

I posted in here a while ago and since then I've noticed the stabilitrac issue more and more. For me it comes on in right and left turns but only in sharp turns. Sometimes if I'm turning and there is a sudden dip in the road and then it dips back up it will come on. Or if I'm at a dead stop on a hill and then make a turn and there is a dip in the road. So to me it seems like the sensor is triggered by angles. I also ran into a odd issue tonight when I was parking. I was backing into a spot and turn my wheel to full lock. The steering wheel bumped and resisted the turn like it locked but then allowed me to turn all the way. When straightening out it did it again. Turned off the truck turned back on and the issue went away. Needless to say I'll have to get under it tomorrow and check out these sensors. Other than this my BDS 6" kit with coilovers and leafs have been great. Although the leafs do squeak and creek I have found now that they have settled and the paint is warn off in areas that rub together.

Anyone have any updates on the stabilitrac issues?

Mine comes on less since I had the alignment redone but not as much. I am going to a BDS authorized installer next Wed to get my coilovers lowered an inch or so and they are going t o re align it again. Hopefully the way they align it will fix the stabilitrack issue.

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.
    • There are no stickers in your glovebox?
    • Look at the numbers on the stickers in the door jam...
    • Yes, every time the developer updates his code, you must recompile. I will private message you with the latest because it changes pretty much with every version.
    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
