Well.....Metal would certainly be a poor choice for anyone worried about heat. Metal is a better conductor of heat than plastic, making the plastic box a better choice for a high heat location.

 

Stay close....the intelligence might rub off lol

My narrow ammo box fits perfectly in the tray, though I think the wider ammo box would fill out the whole battery box. I have a metal and a plastic one. Not sure which would be better under the hood though. Obviously, the metal one would get hotter, but I'm afraid the plastic one would melt. It would be a nice place to keep some tools. I may have to try it out.
