It's an upsell. They're not the only ones practicing it. Next time they suggest a repair or a service item, you know what to do.

People think of the service advisor as a mechanic but basically they are salesmen. They're even paid on commission in some dealerships. That means that the more work they convince you that your vehicle needs; the more money that it puts in their pockets.

Thats why we should hold them all to the same standards. I don't let a salesman tell me something because 9 times out of 10 I'm more educated than they are. It is my pet peeve when someone spreads false information.

 

In my opinion it is theft because they want to steal my money by false statements. It happens in every industry. Cell phone companies are the worst. If you tried to pull this on your insurance company, they'd call it fraud quickly.
