Thanks for your referral over to this thread...and CONGRATULATIONS on the win! I'm pretty meticulous and picky, and this is a very well-thought-out, quality build. I have never heard the Phoenix Gold products before- after being away from car audio so long, so much has changed. Are you still planning on installing the Alpine Headunit?

The simple cosmetic changes you made to the interior trim pieces really have bumped-up the overall perception of luxury/quality in the Denali interior, IMO. Very, very nice. As I wrote in the other thread, just a black or black leather bezel trim upgrade would be a hoot. Your solution works REAL nice.

Just wanted to let you know I appreciate the compliments, and for your information, Phoenix Gold was top of the line stuff back in the early 90's. If you can find the MS and MPS series amps from that time, they are still some of the best amps made. They just need to be recapped and they will still hold their own against anything out there.

The. Alpine X110-SRA is not going in my build. Don't get me wrong it is an excellent piece of equipment, but does not integrate well with systems that have Bose to start with. So it was installed, and uninstalled so fast I didn't even take pictures...lol

Instead I have the 2016 GMC modules that I am putting in here shortly, which will be giving me Apple Carplay with the upgraded processor and USB, and upgraded Navigation. I have it sitting on my workbench currently, basically waiting for me to finish soldering a harness together. The shop I got this set from was nice enough to provide me with a unit that has pre-amp out for front/rear with a 20hz-20khz clean full range signals. So stay tuned for that....

....I will be doing a write up for that along with the build in the coming month......

Oooooooh! Sounds interesting. Sad to hear about the Alpine...I think I saw your post over in DIY Audio forum. I hope Alpine will further develop the X110 platform to integrate with factory BOSE systems as far as all the other stuff like hands-free, etc. Sure would sell more of those units if they DID pull that off.

They achieved a Bose-compatible status with another Alpine unit for previous-gen GM products; lets hope they can pull it off for the latest generation. I so wish you could order a Denali without the BOSE...you can get a Silverado LTZ without it. Granted, you lose some other things if you don't tick the LTZPLUS box, but nothing that is life-shattering, IMHO. At least you could put the new Alpine in that...but it sure doesn't help you with your Denali. Can't wait to hear about your GM module install. The preamp out as described should be pretty stellar...BTW I got out of car audio before Phoenix Gold was prominent, so there's much I missed both good and bad. lol.

Current Update. 160509

Tired of trying to deal with getting the signal needed for an SQ setup from the Bose system, without chimes and time alignment issues. Plan B was the Alpine X110-SRA, and I ruled that out almost instantly due to the loss of hands free features that come with Bose, and the loss of DIC functions.

For those that still want to go with the Bose amp signal, my suggestion is to use the JL Audio Fix-82 (Fix-86 will be out later this year). The Fix-82 will take the signal from the Bose amp and correct it so that it provides a signal that a DSP can use without time alignment issues. I was going to use this as Plan C, but ruled it out because I wanted to get the next option which I felt was a better package.

So Plan C is in the works and it is the 2016 GMC Apply Carplay modules including updated navigation. This set I have pictured have a modification that includes pre-amp out built into the headunit so I can get Front and Rear full range 20hz-20khz signal without having to go through the bose amplifier to get it. No time alignment issues. Clean full range signal without summing, and I can filter the chimes with my Mosconi DSP so that they are not overly loud. The Bose amplifier still needs to be present but its no longer used for audio.

I have been ill since last week, and was supposed to install these last weekend, but did not feel well enough to get it done. Will be installing very soon. Once its done I will post more about it, and provide information to those interested in something like this setup.

Intriguing stuff. So I take it that this modded headunit is an aftermarket thing? (ie the 2016's don't come with the preamp outs as OEM, right?)

Get well. Here's to you getting better, brudda.

What I have pictured are factory 2016 GM modules. I have found a team of guys that modify the software in these modules to upgrade older trucks. These modules are brand new. The programmer used my VIN to preload everything originally in my Denali into the unit, then modified (via programming) the pin-outs to provide preamp output on 8 pins.

Once again, I still have to test, but so far I am really liking the fact I have an upgraded module set.

I will post more info once I confirm everything is good to go.

UPDATE - 160511

2016 GMC Apple Carplay Mod with Pre-Amp Output

Still have not tested the Pre-Amp Output feature, and wont be able to get to it until the weekend, but overall everything is completely functional at this point. Very easy install, took me 30 minutes. That 30 minutes did not include the prep/soldering of the modified harness, but that is a whole other deal. I soldered in an 8-pin plug to connect to my RCA inputs for the Mosconi 6to8V8 DSP, and will not run the cables to it until this weekend. In my opinion, as far as Car Audio Installs go, this mod is a game-changer. So far so good. At first glance the icons are sharper and so is the backup camera image. Pictures are quick shots and do not do the clarity any justice.

Startup Splash Screen is the only thing that changed in my truck. The Denali Splash Screen has been replaced by the GMC logo. I tried getting my own custom

Splash Screen but not an available option yet.

Stay tuned more to follow as usual.

Progress! Now when I buy my 2016 truck, these clearer, smaller icons should already be a part of the OEM package as well as the clearer BU camera display, correct? The thing someone would have to get is the module reprogrammed for the preamp out routed to that 8-pin connector...Yeah, the boot sporting a nice DENALI Splash Screen instead of GMC will be a nice finishing touch.

Still impressed by how wrapping your bezel and other trim pieces really bumped-up the aesthetics. Real aluminum or not, that was one interior feature I had resigned to tolerate until finding the right product in a rattle-can...or a wrap.

Yes, a 2016 vehicle will already have these feature, minus the preamp mod, unless you dont have Bose. Bose systems do not have anything programmed to those 8 pins on the green plug. Not too worried about the splash screen, heck it was worth losing the Denali splash to get upgraded maps and carplay.

UPDATE - 160520

Completed the modification of my Mosconi DSP. powdercoated black with silver/titanium logo. Will be going back in this weekend after firmware upgrade. Will make all the connections and apply new crossover presets, and see what we have from there as far as finalizing the tune.

Any progress, brudda?

A little.....have everything running, but not tuned by Kyle yet. Sounds better than I expected, and will get better once time alignment and the audiocontrol analyzer fine tunes everything.

Just picked up a set of 2016 Headlights. They will be going straight to modification for "Blackout".

Just went to my trusty tire shop over in Abilene and had two of the four new wheels and tires matched/balanced. Truck will be going into the shop in the next three weeks to get the Wilwoods, Bilsteins, Belltech shackles, and Hellwigs installed.....then I will mount the new summer wheels. I have two new sets of wheels, they will be my summer/winter sets. They are 22's for winter (which will be installed first), then a set of the same wheels in 24 for the summer......figured the 22's will be getting beat up during winter so I would go with those first......

My current wheels have some real sentimental value to them, but I am going to put those up for sale in the next few weeks.....local pickup only.......$1500......seems to me nobody else has them on.....I have had them since they were released from Black Rhino in 14. The tires have less than 17K miles......

As far as the system goes, I still have to sound proof the rear doors and mount the Illusion Audio Carbon C6 mids. I currently have the rear seats out, because we (Kyle and I) are still working on the rear panel/cover to accent the Power Distribution box. When that is done, I will drive over to Springfield and get that mounted and the final tune done.

Oh, and once I refinish my 2014 headlights, I will be posting those for sale as well....I am thinking $1000 for those......of course shipped/insured.

It looks like there's still a lot in the pipeline for this pickup. It's going to come together well.

Would you mind sharing your tire shop? I'm probably getting a new set at the end of summer and want it done right.
