How is the new 6.0

I currently own a 2011 6.0 and love the truck. They now have the 6.0 with the active fuel management in the 2015. How do you guys like it ? I know back in the day the 5.3 AFM engines had a lot of problems.

6.0 is the same as your 2011 and has been out since 2009 or 2010. L96 is the engine code. No AFM just VVT.

I really like the L96 6.0L in my 2015 2500. A very appreciated experience compared to the 5.3 in my previous 1500.

There is no 6.0L used in the pickups equipped with AFM. You may have your engines confused?

Not anymore...2007-2009(I think) Vortec Max had the L76 AFM 6.0 and the Hybrid Silverado (2009-2013) had an LFA AFM equipped 6.0.

I am familiar with the V-Max, I own a 2008 with that engine.

The OP claimed the 6.0L with AFM is used in 2015 model year. I simply stated there isn't a 6.0L used that has AFM. What he said is incorrect so there is still some confusion over the engines.

One of many reasons I got my 2500. The L96 6.0L has no AFM. I am a bit of a purist, and the old Calvary Sergeant comes out in me once in a while. Just like in the military, everyone has to pack the gear and do their part. I paid for 8 cylinders. I do not want any of them to take government or union sponsored siestas while the other cylinders do the work. No sir. And I cannot see that the cylinder shutdown nonsense is all that efficient anyway. My 2015 6.0L equipped 2500 is averaging the same mpg as my 2013 5.3L AFM 1500. All of the cylinders are working as they should, and they are moving around 1000 lb more pickup and getting the same mpg. If I had done my research as I should have, I would never have bought that 2013 1500. Lesson learned.

One of many reasons I got my 2500. The L96 6.0L has no AFM.

 

+1 Was also one of my reasons to go with a 2500HD.

13,000 Miles on my 2015 6.0 now.. Pulls a trailer(Summer) or plows snow (Winter) most days. Doesn't catch a break. While It's not the most high tech engine out there. Its proven performance and is always down to work!

Yeah, kinda like the good 'ol 30.06 rifle cartridge or .45 ACP. Kind of old timers, both being over 100 years old, but they still get the job done quite well. While there is always a new kid on the block that can promise wonderful things, these old timers are consistent and reliable. The whiz bang full of bells and whistles 6.2L may cause many folks to turn their heads, the 6.0L will still have a faithful following and get the job done. And it is a tough act to follow. The 6.2L Ecotec has a long way to go to prove that it is a class act like the 6.0L L96.

    • My post above is the direct reason for my outsized interest in keeping what I have for as long as possible. My memory isn't as short as some. 
    • I don't think so. 😏 Cars? Our experience will diverge there as well. I was buying cars with 200K (1970's) when I started and quite a few were pretty solid cars. (My early stuff was 1964 to 1968)  Some stinkers but not the dismal picture painted above. Now that said, yes, a dealer wouldn't talk to you if your car had more than 60K on the clock and lot cars were 60K or less except the back row where 100-120K was the auction bought for dirt for us poor losers. Kids in my county were not allowed to wear long pants if they couldn't rebuild and repair every part of that beast.    I will agree that many parts are now better. Alternators and charging systems are an envy. But I replaced few water pumps or power steering pumps then. Rebuilt carburetors but replaced few. Mufflers are another place of OEM improvement. Stainless?     • The thermometer has been in my wife's 2008 envoy, my sons 2016 chevy, my friends 2020 1500 silverado all showing cooler readings. It's not the guage.
    • Have a question concerning trim levels. Ive not bought a new vehicle since 2006, and I have decided on a 2500 gmc pro or silverado custom. For anyone that has one of these 2 trim levels have you regretted not stepping up to the LT or SLE. I look at things as the more electronics the more problems to arise. I love the look of the old school gauges on the dash as well. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. 
    • If that guage has a way to adjust [hex on bottom], put that thing in a glass full of ice, put water in, put your gage in, let it sit for 3 minutes or so, and set it to 33 degrees.
