Jerking right under acceleration @ 40-50 mph

I have an 03 2500hd, lifted on a RCD 6" lift (bought that way-8 years ago), and recently I have been informed that my pickup could not be inspected, bc the emergency brake could not hold the truck, per state requirements. I took my pickup to get a second opinon, and they passed it. In the meantime, I had discovered that there are brake shoes on the rear end, inside the rotors. I tried to remove the rotors to get to the shoes, and I was unable due to the rotor rusting onto the hub.

 

Since then, there is a recent "clapping" sound coming from the rear end, only when I hit a bump. However, at 40-50 mph, if I accellerate, the rear end wants to "scoot" or "drift" to the right, and I have to compensate and correct by stearing.

 

I have never had a problem with this truck, until now. It has about 185k on it, and I have owned it for 8 years.

Sounds like you should have listened to the first shop and had the parking brake system repaired. When the rotor was attempted to be removed, the shoes probably dis-lodged and are catching occasionally on the drum inside the hat of the rotor.

 

You are probably looking at new rotors, parking brake shoes, hardware, axle shaft gaskets and hub seals (rear hubs have to be pulled to access the shoes), and backing plates, possibly cables and rear pads if they are shot as well. There is a reason states have safety inspections as part of the vehicle inspection process.

under inspectioin, it looks as if the axle has shifted downward (forward). the "clapping" is coming from the lift blocks slapping the block mounts. i have read in another forum that the u bolts could have became stretched. maybe this could be the cause, 15HD?
