Looking to update to leather - how does aftermarket compare with OEM l

Got a new 2015 Silverado which came with cloth seats. I would like to swap out with leather. I had a 2013 Tahoe that I did it with and it worked out great. I was able to find someone selling new OEM leather seat covers from a take off. Installing them was fairly easy and obviously the fit was perfect. You can't buy these at the dealership (unless you wanted to buy each piece individually which would be insanely expensive) but if you wait around and get lucky, you may see them pop up on eBay after a while.

I dont mind waiting and I would prefer to have OEM stuff... the upside to OEM is you know they will fit perfect and the durability is pretty good. The downside is they are hard to come by. But I was wondering if anyone has gone with any aftermarket kits and if they were happy with them. I am not interested in the ones that just slide over your existing ones. I would only want ones that have the special clips that attach directly to the foam like the OEM ones do. How is the durability? How is the fit?

Thoughts?

Roadwire leather is very nice, likely what I am installing. Keystone Styling in New Columbia, Pa will be doing mine soon. Need to decide what direction I am going with interior. Worried with the simplicity of the exterior I really need the inside to pop. They also install Katzkin which are also quality kits.

Katzkin is pretty nice. You can get a full kit on eBay for 500/600 then labor should cosy no more than 350/400 to install. I'm doing it in the next few months.

I am confused why there are SO many Katzkin kits on eBay. Is there any concern these are counterfeit? I would think these would almost be made to order. Just seems odd there are so many for sale

Why not get in contact with Katskins and ask about how and who to buy from?

Find a Katzkin dealer installer near you, then you know you're getting the real deal. I plan to have Katzkin installed once I can figure out how to stop buying tires.

So has anyone installed Katzkin or another aftermarket brand 3 or 5+ years ago? I am sure they are soft and nice when they are new, but how have they held up over time? I was extremely impressed at the leather in my 02 Escalade after 150,000+ miles.

My son-in-law had Katzkins installed on his 2015 Silverado LT before delivery from the dealer and he had to take his back after about 5000 miles because some of the finish was coming off the leather. He owns a Farmer's Insurance agency so I don't believe his clothes were too rough for the interior :) .

I got a kit from LeatherSeats.com for my Dad's 2014 Sierra. We are both super happy with the product. The leather content is higher than in my 2015 SLT with factory leather. A local shop here in Plano did the install. The pattern is identical to the stock pattern, and the color is a dead-on match. the leather is much more comfortable than the stock leather. It's softer to the touch, too. It's actually nicer than the stock leather.

Very happy with the pre- and post-sales support for the guys at leatherseats.com , too. Cant recommend them enough.

Katzkin are lauded by the folks that have them installed on various vehicles. Takes a little effort and time to get them on "just right", apparently, but they seem to wear very well.

You need to understand that these are literally "seat covers" - they install over the top of your cloth covers. This adds thickness that could interfere with seat heaters (reduced output, slower heating, etc.). Otherwise, no real major issues from what I've read. I was seriously considering them, but I don't want seat covers - I would want all new coverings that -replace- the cloth covers.

Katzkin goes over cloth? I didn't think that was the case, I thought it was a replacement.

Apologies - you are correct. I was looking at Katzkin and decided against them because they need to be "professionally" installed. The ones I was thinking of that are seat covers (but are still well-regarded) are Clazzio. Mixed them up.
