Hackers take over Jeep Cherokee

Has anyone else seen the demonstration video from Wired.com.? Where two computer hackers take control of a Jeep Cherokee, that is being driven by someone else on a busy interstate?

Supposedly they were able to hack into the vehicles computer via the Jeep's WiFi/internet connection. This is a little scarey, as the driver lost all control of his vehicle, to the hackers. This really got the attention of Jeep Chysler and immediately came out with a recall for a computer update.

Now I am thinking, what about GM? I haven't heard anything in regards, to whether GM vehicles, have all the necessary security updates to ensure safety from hackers.

I would sure like to hear some comments from GM

The Jeep thing has been on the news as well.

There is a recall announced for 1.4 million units.

I also have a Jeep GC but mine does not have the internet connection. I still do not like the Onstar on my truck, I fear it could also cause problems if someone hacked into their system. I am still waiting for someone to figure out how to disable and/or remove the Onstar unit on the 2014+ models.

I all makes a person wish for good ole days, when vehicles weren't computer controlled and when you could do all your own mechanical work. It's all a plan by all car companies to be under their thumb and to have their hands in our wallets

My wife has a Cherokee Trailhawk. Only has had it about 5 months. She freaked out when she saw it on the internet. We only live about 60 miles from St. Louis where they did it. I'm not worried about it. They were targeting a specific vehicle. Guy driving it was in on with them. They are sending out a USB stick to update the software or I can take to the dealer to have it done.

The consumer as a group demands all this automation and connectivity so there are going to be problems during the ramp up period. I guess it all seems cool in theory but most of the time I don't even listen to the radio and have no desire to talk on the phone, text, etc while driving.

I would rather hack in to your bank accounts than your car. Just sayin.

In my case you'll be better off with the Jeep.

My wallet is made of onion skin. Every time I open it I get tears in my eyes.

Look at it this way. Since people don't really assume someone would hack into, lets say the OnStar system, it wouldn't be that hard for someone to hack into OnStar and then get people's Debit and Credit card #s.

Scary stuff. I got peeved enough at GM using OnStar to send me unstoppable ads for OnStar. I've gotten two already. Completely uncalled for. Having someone take over your vehicle, especially with drive-by-wire these days, could be catastrophic.
