Headlights on 2015+ 2500HD update kit?

These headlights on my $65,000 truck suck suck suck. It's only a matter of time before I hit a deer and put my family at risks because I can't see the God damned side of the roads. I put an LED light bar on the bumper but can't use that on public roads. I am beyond pissed about these headlights. I am thinking about trying the Cree led bulb replacements. They are $60 for a pair.

first take the truck back to the dealership and let them know your problem. there was actually a common complaint made to GM about this years headlight output. what they do is they reprogram the headlights so it fixes the output. mine were really bad to so I had this done and its way brighter. but i also installed HID's because I wasn't entirely happy with the halogen bulbs.

I had a 2015.5 Sierra Denali 3500HD Crew Duramax from 12/14 through 1/2016. The lights Sucked!! I had the Headlight Bulb Upgrade done as soon as it was available. I was not happy with the update and added the Putco Fogs. Even then, there was always a dark spot in the center of the truck. I could never get them adjusted so the beams met in the center of the truck. I would actually get a headache driving that truck at night. Since I heard the 2016's were going to have the HID's, Apple Radio, revised Steering, power tailgate lock, wireless charging, etc, I ordered one in November of 2015. I picked it up about 5 weeks ago. The new Headlights are so much better its not even a comparison.

Autoguy, have any pics showing how the lights illuminate the road in front of the truck?

Do you get decent light to the sides compared to your '15 as well?

Looks like gen5diy has kits available to update the pathetic lighting on the '14-15 trucks, using '16 lamp assemblies.

How's the beam on the road? Wide even beam with a sharp cutoff? Does the high beam light up farther down the road or just higher?

Sorry, on the fence about buying a pair of 2016 HD HID headlamps for my 2015 SLT 1500.

I do not have pics from the cab, but if I remember, I will try to get a few later. I would not hesitate to do the upgrade.

In the second photo I notice the light above the headlight cutoff , IMO the fog lights are aimed to high. fog lights higher than the headlights are wasting light, and shining in oncoming traffics eyes. They even illuminate the second floor of your house. Again, IMO.

I'm curious if the new 2016 2500 HID system will be a direct replacement of our halogens. I prefer factory HID reliability over aftermarket kits.

No you will need a harness and we make one.

I went to my local dealer today and their parts catalog indicates the headlight assembly is the same for 2016. I think someone at GMC screwed up writing HIDs on the 2016 website. If you look at window sticker's of 2016 Denalis around the country, you will see they still say halogen for the lights. I was really hoping we were able to upgrade to factory HID lights but it appears aftermarket is the only option.

There HID, we have lots of them.

I must have something different for stock headlights on my 2500 Silverado. They are standard bulbs, no HID stuff. I have to really watch for deer out here in rural road running and have no complaints. And I rarely use the road lamps, just the headlights. Oh, which reminds me.... I need to install the yellow film I got in to make the road lamps real fog lights. Have never found a yellow bulb that was ever worth the money.

only the new 2016 headlights for the 2500/3500 are HID.

Does anyone know if they hids coming out in the 2016's will work in our 2015's?

only if you get a new harness,

I think they are the exact same lights the 15's have. Part numbers are the same between '15 and '16.

GMC has to many headlights out there, here are the 84012633 and the other side ends in a 32 and they are HID.

Anyone have any info on the 2016 2500/3500HD Sierra Denali HID headlight part number set up? Quite obvious they are HID. Saw one last week myself. Would like to know the cost of the GM parts to install on my 2015.5.

look up.

2SSRS, who is "we make one"? I thought the 2015 harness is a direct plug in but the pwm causes issues thus the need for a capacitor to provide a steady feed to the HIDs? Is the harness you have simply a splice of a capacitor in line or a splice of power away from the BCM directly to the battery?

I'm wondering the same thing!!!! Who is "we"?

Not all '16s have HIDs, mine didn't.

We are a vendor on this site, so "we" means the company i am promoting, we have 20 harness out or in the works, it all depends on what model you have and what lights your going to update too.

So if I want to add the HID lights to my 2015i GMC SLT 2500 HD and I get the harness from you, what else do I need to make this set-up work? I have had the up grade by GM on the better bulbs and reprogramed the BCM with headlight alignment and still hate them then what is required to up grade to the new 2016 HID lights.

Harness and what else?

Thanks for the help here!

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
