Has anyone tried Silverstar bulbs instead of going to HIDs? What's the general opinion of Silverstars?

I use some 5800k Xenons- same as Silverstars essentially- They are BETTER but not like HID's which must run a capacitor relay FOR DRL

Silverstars are not much better than regular Halogens, and not in the same universe as a set of HID lights.

I may pull the trigger on a HID kit. Where can I find one of these capacitor relays you speak of?

Order your kit from the retro fit source- They will explain everything. You pay a little more but they give you great service- worth it

Thanks to the info from this blog my dealer now has the GM headlight update kit on order!

I ordered a kit from the retro fit source, my understanding is the capacitor is to correct can-bus errors. The computer does not reconize headlights due to the lower amp draw. Nothing to do with DRL.

I used the Morimoto 5500k kit.

Probably th highest quality retrofit you can buy.

BTW, you are missing nothing with LED lighting. It doesn't put out enough light IMHO, and not nearly as many lumens as an HID bulb.

Just picked up my 2015 LTZ CC SB 3500. Still same bulb set up as my 14 1500. First order of business is the easy H9 low and 9011 HI swap. 50 bucks and much better light then stock. I did this on my 14 and for the money is good upgrade. Tried HID and the plug and play reliability wasn't there for me yet.

My dealer installed the GMC headlight kit yesterday which I assume is just new bulbs and some reprogramming to allow for higher wattage. When I got home and pulled into my garage I could see that they were much whiter and brighter!

I went to my local dealer today and their parts catalog indicates the headlight assembly is the same for 2016. I think someone at GMC screwed up writing HIDs on the 2016 website. If you look at window sticker's of 2016 Denalis around the country, you will see they still say halogen for the lights. I was really hoping we were able to upgrade to factory HID lights but it appears aftermarket is the only option.

My 2016 Denali has factory HID headlights...fyi.
