Soft a$$ aluminum hood. AVS AeroSkin ?

Got a rock chip on the edge of my hood. Very, very tiny, but the impact was hard enough to leave a little dimple on the hood. Grrrrrrrr I'm not a fan of aluminum. (guess I won't ever buy a new F-150) My OCD is driving me nuts because of the chip and dimple. Already have touch up paint on it, but the dimple is driving me crazy.

Anyways, I'm looking at the AVS AeroSkin Bug Shield. It's been out a while, so those of you that have it; is it holding up well? I know it's held on by 3M tape. Before I buy one to cover up the dimple from the rock chip, I wanted to see if anybody is having issues with theirs.

Thanks,

I've had one on my 15 since the first week I've owned it. No issues. Looks good imo just take your time putting it on and clean the hood real good where the tape goes. I used windex. As the supplied cleaner didn't get it clean enough for me and make sure the protector tape is in the right spot before you put it on so the metal clips don't scratch your hood

I have a friend who covered his entire Corvette with Xpel. He loves it and swears by the protection it offers. On his new Chevy truck he only covered high risk areas, front end, mirror covers, headlights, etc.

Eventually the tape refuses to stick and is a pita to glue back down.

I have xpel on the front but not the hood. All i gotta say is be ready to pay if you go that route. I did ask about cost of hood and a small strip across front of hood was $150

Does the Aeroskin use metal clips?

I wasn't aware of that, but all hood protector shields I've found online seem to use clips to hold the ends of the shield.

The GMC hood has 4 square holes already in the underside of the hood for mounting hood shield(?) but have yet to find one that utilizes them. Has anyone found one?

Seriously looking at the clear paint protection film for my truck.

My aeroskin doesn't use clips. Only 3m tape and is been on the truck for more the half a year and it still perfect.

I was looking into that exact sheiks. Wasn't sure if I wanted it because I'm not a fan of sticky tape on my paint. Would love more opinions from people who have it.

I had Xpel installed on my truck within a few days of bringing her home. Did a "bikini" cut across the front of the hood and front fenders and the painted strip between bumper and grill. Since my bumper, grill and mirror caps are chrome, they did not recommend covering them. But it sure has kept the covered areas from dings and paint chips.

I have had the AVS shield on my 14 from day 1 and it's holding up great.

Sent from Windows Phone.

Mine has been on since early may with no signs of tape failure. That's why i mentioned using stronger cleaner where the tape goes. The supplied wipe did not leave the paint tacky enough for me so if one was to just follow the directions i could see how the tape could fall

Yull just have to wait and see if it makes it through winter.

I have Xpel on the whole front end of my vette, 1/3 of the fenders and 1/3 the hood and the mirrors - well worth it, stuff is the best on the market.

I went w/ cheapo 3M clear bra on my all terrain though, don't care about it as much as the vette for obvious reasons (truck gets parked outside 24/7, I use it like intended etc.) but for the painted bumpers especially you really need to get it done or they will chip to all hell within a month of driving (I know - I had a '14 they actually repainted for me and then put a film on it was so bad)

I debated on doing something just on the front 4" of hood line and the same for the fenders (truly, after 38,000 miles those were the only places on my 14 that got any chips in front other than the damn painted bumper), but touch up paint is free w/ the truck, and AL doesn't rust...so oh well.
