Got Hailed on a couple days ago :(

On Saturday morning I woke up to some loud wind at 8am so I got up and closed my window. As I got back into bed I heard the unmistakable sound of a hailstone hitting the side of the house, followed by a couple more and then they just came raining down! I got out of bed to look outside and the hail was coming in at 45 degrees with the wind. They were between Quarter and Nickel sized and the only thing I could think of was my poor truck sitting in the driveway.

It lasted about 20 minutes and then it turned to rain. After everything had cleared, I went and wiped the water off my truck to survey the damage. As I looked, I could see a few dents in the hood and chrome moldings under my windows. Then I looked at the roof and could easily could 30-40 dents everywhere on the roof. They aren't big dents but just enough to see that it was hailed on in the right light. 90% of people who walk by my truck wouldn't be able to tell it was damaged if they didn't look close. Problem is, I know theres damage and I can't stand it. I'll get it fixed for my own peace of mind and for resale value.

I filed my insurance claim and I'm going to get an estimate to fix it and go from there. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes. I know they will be able to do Paintless dent repair on the dents and then just replace the moldings. I'd post pics but its hard to get a good pic that shows the actual damage.

Bummer!

Had hail damage several years back on our house (roof and siding), wife's VW Jetta (it was less than 1yr old), the 1998 Durango I was driving at time and our motor home. Insurance covered it all and we had the dents popped out on Jetta and Durango. You can't tell there was any damage. Insurance replaced roof and damaged siding on house. On the motor home, I just kept the insurance money as value lost because I didn't want them to open up the front cap and risk introducing future water leaks. The dents are high up in the cab over bunk so not easily noticeable. I wince every time weather channel talks about possible hail!!!

Hail damage sucks! My 2010 Silverado still has dents in the hood and roof from a hail storm last year. I was driving into work when it happened. Luckily I was able to pull under an overpass and wait it out but some damage was already done. It's not very noticeable BUT I know it's there and it bothers me every time I look at my truck. Going to cost $300 to fix it, at some point I am going to have to pony up the cash and have it done.

A a big storm blew over when I lived East, Tn. a few years ago. I had a 2000 Indigo Blue Silverado and Hail left two quarter size dents on the hood and a few on the roof. Considered my self lucky after seeing other vehicles dimpled like a Golf Ball. Car Dealers were having Hail Damage Sales and Auto Body Shops offering discounts. Too bad truck was damaged, A cover will help but high wind will move it around and cause rub marks on fenders , hood and roof edges.

I had a brand new car with temp tags take $2k in hail damage and my wife's 1 year old car get hit at the same time. The hail only hit my county too.

This is not my truck... but this is another sierra that took golfball to baseball sized hail about 200 miles north of where I live. Mine is nowhere near this bad. I think this truck was actually totalled off.

I got hit with a major hail storm the day after I purchased my truck. I was driving in it. Biggest hail I had ever experienced. Was trying to get under some trees to protect the truck. I didn't see any damage, but perhaps I should recheck it after hearing your adventure.

Ya make sure to wash your truck, wipe it down and then look at it under direct sunlight. They should show up if they are there.

I recently rented parking space at my business for hail damage repair. They were here for 7 weeks repairing damage to vehicles. One car had 500 dents, needless to say there work is amazing.

PDR is the best way to have it repaired. Most of those guys are really good. It's amazing what some are able to do with a few metal rods, hot glue gun and puller!

I saw that one too. I believe and they appraised his damage at over $35,000 - ever body panel and window got it except the tailgate. So now he's selling off the parts.

Where are you located - we got lucky and missed the hail.

I would just call a PDR guy first before your insurance . Trust me, they're great at what they do. I parked under a coconut tree once and had 2 coconuts fall on our 2000 chevy. I thought I needed a new hood for sure but when he was done, we couldn't even tell!

They'll do PDR through insurance. I know that the moldings will be replaced so that's probably $150 right there. My deductible for hail is only $200.

I would just be worried about paying higher premiums for a couple years after because I had a claim. Not to mention the carfax would show a repair and the depreciation in the end could be a couple thousand dollars.
