My Link / OnStar question Traffic reports

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 Silverado LTZ options My Link and On Star standard. So I am driving along and a traffic report comes across the speakers. Is that service provided by My Link or On Star. I am still on the trial with On Star and don't know that I will pay for the service once the free trial is up. If the traffic alerts are On Star I may consider the fee. It advised me that construction was ahead in the left lane and may cause delays for instance

I don't need the On Star navigation, Navigation is built in with the My Link system I have. I understand there are 2 systems those that have My Link Nav and those that have On Star Nav from what I have been told anyway. Someone that knows the systems and can explain it better would be a great help.

Sirius XM Nav Traffic and Travel Link: Nav Traffic gives you traffic alerts and Travel Link gives you weather, fuel prices and movies depending upon your market listings. To read more...

I would also add that you can use the OnStar mobile app to send directions to either Turn by Turn (vehicles without in-dash Nav) or In-Dash Nav by using the Map tab. Or you can use MapQuest.com to review a destination and download it to your vehicle.

Too many choices!!!

Agreed 100%; it's an XM service.

I like the send to 'In-Dash Nav' feature of the OnStar app. I never knew you could do this via Mapquest. OnStar has told me that function of the app will be disable after the trial period unless I pay something like $30+ a month. Any idea if the Mapquest method works after the trial period?

You need to take the reports with a grain of salt. I29 is down to 2 lanes through town for road work but when i drive through traffic report comes through the speakers stating " road closed"!

I don't know, but since it "sends to OnStar" from Mapquest, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a "hook" somewhere so that you have to keep OnStar active.
