Any $1500.00 private offers popping up lately?

He is correct on the private offer, you cant just walk in and say "I want this private offer or I walk". It is a manufacture rebate for lack of a better word, as said GM wont always allow you to stack them either. Now if GM gives the dealer a pile of dealer cash to use, the dealer can choose how they use dealer cash. Some hang onto it and don't use it and some will use it to keep a sale from walking. I had a dealer give me $2000 in dealer cash once to keep me from walking on a sale.

Which is kind of what they do after the model year ends. They send out a check so that the dealers can directly advertise the "rock bottom" price at that point. Sure, there's holdback - which accounts for about 3% of the total invoice price. In order to earn that, though, dealers have to move a certain volume of vehicles. They aren't going to start digging into their holdback if they haven't sold enough vehicles yet that month to qualify for all of it.

When I bought my truck, they were offering $3900 in factory cash allowances (rebates), of which $1500 was coded as a private offer cash allowance, which negated me being able to use/stack my private offer certificate I was carrying.

Are you telling me that GM has changed its ways and now, and no longer codes any of the $4250 in factory cash allowance as a private offer?!?

I find that hard to believe..... but if so, good on GM for doing so.

My guess is that the $4250 cash was broken down into several smaller rebates like it always has been, and at least part of it is coded as a private offer, just like it always has been.

The same goes for Conquest Cash rebates, they are almost always coded as private offers, the same with the $750 USAA rebate, which is also coded as a private offer, so these also typically won't stack with other private offers either.

Like I've said, they discounted my truck $11,546 from the MSRP and the only code they needed was my employee discount code. They gave me a $1500 Private Offer discount that didn't require any code or pin so again, I question the validity of the printed paper certificates and whether they are really necessary to get that extra $1500 discount.

According to my dealer, the ONLY discount he can't give out to anybody willy-nilly is the employee discount, unless GM authorizes him to do so. And only 1 private offer per purchase. All the other rebates, discounts, sales, can pretty much be handed out to whoever they want, whenever they want.

I got $1500 Consumer Cash, $1000 Bonus Cash, $750 Regional Cash, $1000 Downpayment Assistance (had to finance with GM bank)

The Private Offer was something I had to "earn" on my own for the extra $1500, brought the rebates portion to $5750.

I also got the $750 package savings and Supplier Pricing to get me to over $9500 off MSRP.

In June of 2014 I did a trade over the phone for my 2013 Silverado to a 2014 Silverado. The trade price was $3600 after rebates. When I arrived I showed them my private offer of $1500 and my GM card for $1500 and ended up trading for $600 plus fees.

This Wednesday 9/2, I got 20% off MSRP deal on a GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 All-terrain 6.2L. Stickered @ 54.4K, I paid 43.5K. Pretty good deal in my eyes.

I dont think I could have done better? Dunno! :)

I tried to do the same thing on a 6.2L SLT I saw on the GMC website. It also qualified for the 20% off deal, but I called the dealer and they had sold it a week earlier. GM really needs to update their websites quicker! I ended up with a Denali (which I love), but that 20% off would have been nice. :nopity:

I've mentioned this story before, sorry for repeating it, but I recently bought my son a 2015 Chevy Cruze. Sticker was $21,260. Sales price was $18,020.

In addition financing was a 24 month lease at app. 1.2%. These cars sell like fire-how/why I got that deal to this day I don't know. The $$ off was simply called "factory to dealer cash" on the yellow sheet.. Before I pulled the trigger, I shopped the deal to 3 other dealerships, one basically called me a liar, the other two were like "take that and run bro". Even the saleswoman I bought from couldn't clearly tell me what was going on with the pricing.

The more cars I buy, the more I think dealerships pretty much can do whatever they want, whenever they want, to make a sale-if they want to.

Absolutely, it all depends on how hungry they are to make numbers for the month.

Oh, they definitely have leeway. I bought a Sierra in February. Started looking for an SUV for my wife in July. When the August incentives came up, I decided to trade the Sierra Double Cab against a Crew Cab Silverado as well. The sales guy put in the time and effort, located SUVs, and did what he could to try and get a Locate done to close the deal on TWO $45k vehicles.

While the Sales Manager knew I certainly COULD pull off two new cars, I don't believe he thought I would actually do it and never bothered to lock down a Locate. They had a 2014 Acadia Denali on the lot that is way overpriced, even with $5k off the MSRP to try and move it. I know damn well he could have dropped that thing to put it where I wanted it, but he just kept saying that there was nothing out there.

I went to a different dealer and closed a deal on a '15 Silverado and a'16 Traverse 2LT AWD. Signed all the papers on 8/31, picked up the Traverse that day and the truck the next.

Now the first dealer is like "what do you mean you went somewhere else?"

    • I know; crap pictures.   Anyway, as a finale of sorts to this thread, I had replaced both differential covers and since they had the capability of adding temperature probes, I did that. These are MaxTow analog/digital gauges with stepper motors. They'll flutter around like crazy for a moment and start at a nominal 100 degrees Fahrenheit.   I drove a 30-mile loop to the grocery store, averaging 70 MPH (as much as 80 to see if there was a quick spike in temperature. The air temperature is 102 (ambient ?). but the first pic is 7 miles into the trip. The second is getting back into the truck after leaving the store; differential temperatures dropped about three to four degrees in 15 minutes. The third pic in on the road to my house, about a mile away.   In that run, I saw a high of 150F on the rear differential, and 121F on the front. I'm sure a longer drive or towing will see higher than that, and when that happens, I can update the observations.
    • You don't want to become predictable now, do you? 😏
    • Fully warm, coolant temp >194, closed loop.   Run time can be anywhere from just reached operating temperature to having driven 30+ miles.   The O2 chart (which is a feature I just discovered after reading) for the bad idle seems to be "most" of the time. For the little time I've been watching it (scanning and driving! watchout!) I can't seem to isolate any cause or condition yet.   It definitely idles rougher sometimes than others and so far what I've seen is the rougher idles are always rich. But not enough to set a CEL.   In other news I replaced the starter solenoid. Everything on this truck is such a PITA. Starter "snout" is mangled up with the torque converter inspection cover which is tangled up with hard cooling lines and the driveshaft. But I got 'er done without too much swearing...I just go into everything now knowing it's going to be a frustrating mess.   The starter solenoid replacement kicks off the next round of work: AC, injector rebuild, cat, exhaust. I'm just going to do it all. But first:   I don't know what my fuel pressures are. I can't definitively say the issue is the injector without first verifying fuel pressures and any leakdown. I "rented" a test kit ($199.99 at O'Really's ...intentional misspelling). They don't "rent" tools anymore, they charge you for the tool and then you return it when you're done. No joke. It is listed as a rental on the receipt but the guy told me there's no difference between renting and buying  now, you just return it when you're done and they refund the credit card. Mmmkay, whatever.   I will rule out fuel pressure issues (too much), and any leaking (that's how I'll know the problem is inside the intake). I think someone said the return line could be plugged or not flowing and that could cause high fuel pressure (and too much fuel being pushed through injectors). I'll cross that bridge if I get high readings.   As of now I'm ready to tear off the intake cover, extract the injector, and have it sent off to be rebuilt just so I can rule that out.
    • What are the conditions of this rich idle? Warm or cold engine? Run time? Does every idle look like this or only sometimes?
