Which Borla are you running. I actually live near their factory in TN and can get a little off the MSRP but damn they are still expensive.

That is interesting, how much better is you mpg with AFM turned back on. 1 mpg or better? I've always had an exhaust on everything I own and it is killing me not to do something to my 2014. Tried the dynomax VT but just didn't sound very good and the truck actually shook with V4 and the throttle barely pressed plus helicopter sound. I am thinking of breaking down and going with a flowmaster 50 series but that Corsa sounds really good.

I put a 70 series on my '14 5.3 and loved it... Still had v4 warble though (kinda like the back windows were down) so I shut the AFM off.

I have the magnaflow on my 6.2 and even with long tubes/high flow cats it is amazing. Best aftermarket exhaust I have ever had! smooth, deep, no rasp, not too loud......i really do like it and I never admit to liking anything!

I just put an mbrp exhaust on today. First thought is that I like it. Its got a nice deep growl when accelerating but when cruising its almost unnoticeable.

Only time I noticed V4 chop was slowing down off ramp. I usually drive around town M5 and M6 Hwy. Shop installed 18" Magnaflow 2.25 dual with 16" long 3.5 " round tips. $380. Sounds great but going to switch to a Chambered or Turbo type muffler. Plus with 2.25 dia. pipes you are limited to bolt on tip size in lenth 2.5. has alot more choices including mufflers

I'm really wanting a Borla Cat Back Touring Exhaust with straight back duals for my 5.3L 2015, but have been on the fence due to the V4 sound issue, as I don't really want to do a tune at this time. Maybe not even until the 5yr power train warranty has expired.

After doing a little digging, I was able to confirm that Borla and its distributors "only" sell the standard Touring model, while GM dealers "only" sell the Touring version with the Flapper Valve to remedy the V4 drone people are mentioning. For those that went with the standard (non-GM) model, opinions vary as to how noticeable and annoying the V4 drone (or chopping sound) really is. I know that some people a super sensitive to things, while others are not. Based on all the reviews I've read, it seems that the V4 tone annoyance is probably a 3-4 on a 10 scale.

Part of me wants to go with the GM flapper valve version, but they are probably $100 - $200 more expensive than the standard Borla, which is not cheap as it is. Best deal I've seen is $950 shipped. I'm probably gonna call a GM dealer for a part number and cost pretty soon. I found three different GM part numbers (below) and can't seem to tell the difference in them. If anyone finds out before I do, please post the difference in the three models.

To be honest, I've gotta give Borla a really big thumbs down on not offering the Flapper Valve version directly to public, especially when GM has clearly switched to the Ecotec3 engine with AFM.

Borla.....are you listening?

If you get the Borla and the V4 noise bothers you, you can always drive the truck in M5 to avoid most of it. A Range unit is another option to disable v4. I drive the first 12k miles with using the M5 method to disable v4. I live in a hilly area so losing v4 had negligible effect on my FE.

For a detailed description of each part number, you can go to:

For example, 3334 is for a Crew Cab, STD box, dual pipes out the rear...and so on with pictures. I used their GM part numbers and searched...found mine from a GM dealer through Amazon.com.

Remember, the tips are sold separately as a pair in chrome or black.

And, to another of your questions, this was a joint development effort between GM and Borla engineering, but it is a GM product, sold exclusively through GM dealers. None of the exhaust providers have this type of flapper valve and this is nuch better than stock with a bypass loop.

Thanks for info and the link. I figured that the GM exhaust was proprietary.

So it looks like the $1k model #19303333 is what I would need for my Double Cab, Standard Box, along with the $120 exhaust tips. So it's probably about $1150 shipped. Ouch...!!!

The dynomax VT does have a flapper in the muffler itself. I tried it for a week but still did not like the helicopter sound in V4 with light throttle so went back to stock. Plus the dynomax did not have a very impressive sound at idle or light to medium throttle but did sound good at wot.

I got mine (19303337, dual side exit for Double Cab, Standard Box) for $1020, plus $144.95 for the tips, plus $64.50 shipping from Louisiana to Texas = $1229.45 total delivered from Banner Automotive via Amazon. I started out by doing a Google search using the part numbers.

Yeah, after doing some more checking, I found the whole set up I would want for about $1210 shipped. Since you have the GM version, can you please give me your opinion of the V4 sound while driving at a steady pace, to include the freeway? Any drone sound? Is there much difference in sound in V4 from V8?

From what I've heard, the overall exhaust tone sounds similar to stock until you get over 2k rpm. Do you ever wish you got a slightly louder exhaust?

There is no drone at all. Because I am listening for it, I can tell the difference between V4 and V8, but it is very minor and I do not feel any vibration when it changes. I would disagree about the note...it is much more of a "throaty rumble" from the cold start and at idle and then when slowly accelerating. While it is very noticeable over 2K rpm, it does mellow out at highway speeds and is mild at 80+ mph. But I could not hear my stock sound at all when cruising or slowly accelerating. This GM Borla reminds me of how stock exhaust used to sound on my 1999 ¾ ton Suburban. Nice, throaty rumble, then smooth on the highway.

Nice. Thanks for the info. I'm probably gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on this pretty soon. The engine is so quiet, its killing me. My previous car was a Trailblazer with a Flowmaster exhaust, so I'm used to hearing something when I accelerate and cruise.

    • Can anyone explain why the oil pressure runs higher after the DFM is shut off?  just installed the Pulsar Lt.
    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
