I just bought the canbus with the lights so I did not have to worry about the flickering. Everything is working like it's suppose to.

Did you have to do any mods to fit it in behind the dust cap? i cant seem to fit all the wiring inside

Hi all,

New as a member to this forum but I’ve been reading up on the LED lighting for a while now. I purchased the 9012 LED’s from Xenon Depot. Came in over the holidays and I finally installed Monday. I’ve read mixed opinions on using or not using the CANBus so I decided to get them just in case. I installed both lights without issues, didn’t use the CANBus. Locked both bulbs in the 3-9 position as many here recommended. Both lights fired right up, didn’t notice any flickering. Put everything back together, backed the truck out of the garage and here is where the problems begun. The driver side bulb went out after about 1-2 minutes while the passenger side stayed on. I checked all the connections, tried again and the same thing happened. I next connected the CANBus and the lights didn’t even come on. So I pulled out my trusty multimeter and started going through the wiring. Without the CANbus I’m getting 12V to both bulbs. With the CANbus plugged in I’m getting 1.47V to the bulbs. Hard to believe but it seems I got two bad CANBus’s from XD. I spoke to their customer service and they are sending two new CANBus’s so I’m hoping this will resolve the issue. Bottom line, I’ve not had a good experience installing these. It’s all plug and play, but does not seem to be working as advertised. Anyone else have a similar experience these bulbs? How did you manage to fix?

Imd dealing with the same thing, only issue im having in addition is I cant seem to fit the Canbus behind the dust cover, have you found a way?

Thinking I'm getting these...http://www.xenondepot.com/9012-Xtreme-LED-kit-p/xt-led-9012.htm . Looks like it comes with an adjustable set screw collar-clockable- for LED orientation, and a new cover with the resister/CANBUS being exterior to the cover/bulb installation socket and the final +- connector back in by the bulb. There is lots of room on the drivers side, but the passenger side has the air filter housing + there might not be enough room due to the short wiring harness, to get it in a secure position. Anyone try the newest 9012 Extreme LED kit yet??

Just wondering, how hot should the flexible heat-sink actually get after say your driving for 1hr or so. I took the back cap off and touched the flexible heat sink (which is spread out like instructed) and it seemed rather hot after only a 30 min drive. Is this normal ?

I was wondering the same thing, I just got my new extreme LEDs today and installed them first without the canbus since most people didn't need them, worked fine with the truck off but flickered and shut off when I started it. I have a 2014 SLT. I had to tear it all back a part and put the canbus in. Worked fine after that but not super impressed with the high beams, doesn't seem any brighter than the horrible stock halogens. Low beams with the matching fogs look pretty good and color matches well. I was able to fit all of it behind the dust cover but wonder how hot the heat sync material and LED driver module are supposed to get? After about an hour or driving they were quite hot to the touch but not quite to the point of burning me, hopefully this is normal and they will be fine and not fry themselves.

The highbeam on stock sierra lights are infact not any brighter. The use same bulb at full capacity for low and high. high just opens the flapper/plate all the way. Does not use a seperate bulb or add any lumins like the chevys or many other makes. When I swapped to Spyder lights which do have a seperate h1 bulb for high there was a big difference in brightness as opposed to just 'field of view'.

Yeah I knew there was a single bulb with the shutter for high beams, I was just hoping these bulbs would throw a bit more light down the road since they're brighter. The don't seem to unfortunately but the light pattern they put out do seem to shine a bit more into the ditches which is a plus.

any more updates on the new extreme LEDs?

I ended up moving the driver module and the canbus outside the headlight and used the rubber plug that came in the kit to seal my dust cover after drilling a hole in it. I just wanted to be on the safe side with the amount of heat that seemed to be building up in there. So far no issues at all with them. They don't seem to help a lot with throwing light way down the road but seem to shine more into the ditch which is helpful. The fog light bulbs I also purchased at the same time seem to make a bit of a difference brightness wise as well.

Just bought a set of led's off ebay for my 2015 sierra headlights. Im having issues with them as they turn on when i start the truck and then a second later they go off and back on for a second, then go back off for a few minutes. Then they come back on and stay on until i turn truck off. So before i drive at night i need to wait about 7 minutes before they stay on.

Anyone else have this issue? The leds have the canbus box between the hardness. So not sure why they do this.

Any thoughts ???

I had the same issue, I decided to run my lights through an HID harness I had, no problems since.

Can you post more pics of your headlights up close with headlights on and off? Curious how you had them painted. Been wanting to do mine like that. Also I'm running some cheap eBay leds and the appear bright if you stand in front of them and on walls but they don't see to actually light up the road. Are yalls leds the same way?
