bring back extended cab

Personally I was looking at buying an extended cab f150 instead of my GMC double cab but the continued use of the old "suicide" style doors turned me away. The old extended cabs looks better but the suicide style doors are a PITA

Old suicide doors?

The F150s now fold back just like the old extended cabs of GM.

I miss the extended cab doors....was easy to get stuff of floor in back without opening door,Ill adapt

I'd have probably bought another F150 but extended cab Lariats all impossible to find without the small Ecoboost motor.

"Old" just meaning the same design they've had for the past decade +

The new Ford 2017 SD revealed today still has the rear-opening EC option...

Love my GMC but I was drooling over new F250.

FWIW, I think Ford made the switch back to a single cab size - the new Super Duty cabs/dash look to me to be the same as the F150. No more unique cabs for the Super Duty.

Had a 2012 ext. cab. Could not stand the body/door flex and overall noise with the ext. cab. Double cab all the way.

Yep, I had an ext. cab and it squeaked, and made noises between the front and rear doors due to body flex. I don't miss me ext. cab.

IMHO .....I have had extended, crew & double cab & the extended cab sucks because theres no power windows & you gotta open your door to let people in & out .....

The gmt900's had power windows for the ext cabs.

Oh....I didn't know that

Me either, until my dog hit the switch one afternoon right after I got the truck. Realized what the lock out button on the front drivers door was for after that.

I went from an ext cab 08 to a double cab 2014. The ext cab was better for access, but the double cab was quieter without the flex between the door. The double cab is much more rigid and quiet since two moving parts are not depending on each other to latch closed. Probably safer with the extra pillar in there too. I imagine it is much easier to quiet the cab down with the extra pillar in there. It's a trade off. You lose a bit of access to the rear, but you get regidity, safety and quietness in return. I ended up prefering the double cab. I didn't get back there much, and I am not very large, but the door is kind of small for an adult to wedge in there, but I usually called dibs on driving.

I remember years ago my wife and I were loading into her dad's extended cab truck and had all four doors open. Before we could get situated in the back, the mother-in-law jumped in the front passenger seat and proceeded to SLAM (really hard) the front door as she always did/does (don't get me started on door slamming). Well, with the back door not being closed, the front door had nothing to latch onto. It made a huge clanking sound and bounced hard back fully open and then almost closed again. The whole truck rocked back and forth. I thought the door was going to fall off. She screamed at her husband and then us when it happened, and we started laughing uncontrollably. She was so mad, but it was all her fault. It was very comical.

I have had the EXT cab in my 09 and I knew after riding in friends double cab that there was no way I would go that route again. I had to get a crew cab, I carry more people than cargo to use the standard bed. That is why I got a trailer.

I don't know what the specs are on paper but my 2002 ext cab had a lot more room in the back and less room in the front than the 2014/15's do. I am 6'1" and I had to have the seat all the way back on my 2002 model but in my 2014 I don't. I have actually never sat in the back seat of my 2014 so I hopped in the back of it last night and it is definitely a tighter fit than my 2002 was! I don't have kids or haul people in the back so it fits my needs just fine but if you regularly haul around adults or even kids then i wouldn't even consider the double cab.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
