I thought they could have been more unique by keeping the suicide opening, but still have the doors independent with the pillar in the middle like they are now. Maybe conceal the outside door handle a little or something so there are not two large handles next to one another. But as short as the db cab doors are, most any one would still be able to open or close from the inside the same as current.

You'll never see a modern vehicle with rear opening back doors without the front doors overlapping them. They're called suicide doors for a reason.

I drove my 2002 ext cab for 12 years and I really miss the "suicide" doors compared to the double cab doors on my 2014. I am still trying to open my back door like I am still in my old truck. My 2002 also had alot more room in the ext cab portion but less room in the front cab. I actually liked that better. You would think if crash regulations were such a big deal that ford would not have continued with the suicide doors on their 2015 ext cabs.

I like the extended cab too. I Have an 09. Wish you could get a factory installed sunroof in the new Double cab models. Must be part of the new safety regs...

Fair enough point. While I think the pillar would be a sufficient enough latch system comparable to a front door connected to it, a lawyer would have a field day if someone flew out of an open rear door in a worst case scenario crash.

Why does ford still have ext cab (supercab) if it is unsafe....

Because Ford wants to kill people. Joking. I think that in the past GM design their issue in the crash testing was for rollovers in the ext. cab. Not so much people flying out the suicide door. GM had a 4 star rating while Ford received a 5 star rating in that test. So the pillar on the GM truck addresses that. Again, could be wrong, but that is what I remember from watching the crash test videos.

I was curious about that too. They had them up through 2012, but deleted them in the 2013's before the K2xx launched.

My .02 real quick best looking extra cab 99-02 silverao gmc. 2nd 88-98. I vote if the person wants it there way.. why say no? He's the customer it's his money.. give the guy a extended cab.

I preferred the extended cab as well. Sure, it's inconvenient to open the fronts first, but then the rears opened so much wider.

I couldn't agree more my 2013 Silverado is extended cab and them back doors open up on 90 degree angle gives me lots of room to get my big motocross gear bag out of the back seat. Even easier then a crew cab and way nice when it comes to cleaning not having these doors on there current trucks is a huge down fall for me and is kinda holding me back on a 14+ truck. My 2013 only has 42 000km so I might just keep it for while GM really needs to bring back the extended cab and drop the crew cab.

Dam ment to say double cab not crew cab.

I bought the double cab not knowing that the crew cab was available with the 6-1/2' bed. Looking back I'm glad I didn't get the crew cab. All I put in the back are grandchildren anyway.

If I remember right, it was some $3k more for the crew cab.

The double cab looks sportier to me and I find the rear door on the crew cab has sort of a "limosine" look to it. Not to mention harder to park. Just my 2 cents.

I got the crew but love that's gm went double cab. While a small percentage still prefer the ext cab , majority of buyers prefer the back doors. I actually did a couple of gm group gatherings and this is info I received.

Wonder if F150 will change. They are only ones who have the ext cab.

By the way imp the 88-98 were best looking ext cabs. Miss my 94

I had 2 94's, an 01 and now a 15. I definitely like the looks of the 94 over the 01, but I am liking the looks of the 15. The 15 is the first one not an extended cab.
