Air Filter replacement

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to replace their air filter yet? The air box now has screws, instead of clips. Four screws all together. The front left screw only has about an inch of space above it before it hits some line (possibly power steering or something). It is not a rubber line so you cannot move it. Has anyone found a way to remove this screw easily without talking more things apart?

Jiggle the air box around. You can get a screw driver on it. The hard part is removing the lid completely. I just opened the box slightly and slid the filter out/in.

yea I think its a compressor line for the AC. Terrible placement. Makes opening the airbox a PITA, but you can wiggle the airbox around enough to get a driver on it.

i just pull the whole box out and replace the filter with the box outside of the truck. much easier that way, yeah you have two extra steps, but taking the screws out are cake once the box is out of the engine bay. takes me about 5 minutes to take the box out and put it back in.

It probably took me about 20 minutes to replace the filter once I wiggled it around and got the last bolt off. Then had to figure out how to get the lid up high enough to get the filter out and put the new on in. I don't know what year they stopped using clips, but those made it so much easier. Seems like they are making regular maintenance more difficult so people take it into the dealer rather than perform it themselves.

Remove the box. Pull MAF sensor plug and wire hold. 5/16" nut driver to losses clamp and slide intake tube off. Pull up on box and slide toward center and up. Takes 40 seconds and you can clean the sand out if there is any.
