Allison Transmission filter broke off

Brand new 2015 Duramax 3500 Z71 had piece of log break off my transmission filter and pour all the fluid on the ground. Also broke the cheap ass pot metal where it screws to the bottom of the tranny. Filter was laying on the ground with small dent and male threads with large washer and casting still atached! WTF seems like really poor design just hanging down with no protection thought there should be a skid plate or something to protect this highly vulnerable part. Had to be towed to Chevy garage not sure what they will say .New Transmission? Anybody had this happen?

No but friend had a big rock shatter the oil pan on his pickup on a woods road. His insurance company paid for it, comprehensive. So check with your insurance agent.

I like others wish the automakers installed real heavy duty metal skid plates after all these are heavy duty trucks built for off road and extreme conditions.

I would call what happened to you a fluke though, had a semi tire chunk hit the underside of my wife's Volvo car the other day, could have easily ripped the trans cooler line or anything else off as well as put a hole in the a/c condencer/rad/trans cooler or anything else, shit happens.

Sorry to hear it got your trans, sucks even if it is a fluke.

Oviously you have never laid on your back underneath your truck probably take it in and let somebody else work on it for you because you would notice there's no skid plate covering a very vulnerable filter it is a poor design truck is a four wheel drive and should be able to take off road

The filter is not a poor design, the filter is tucked up on the LML, I don't know what kind of log you hit but it would damage any vehicle if it got that filter all the way up there.
