Running wiring for a dashcam down the A pillar?

Hi everyone,

I have a dashcam coming this week for the truck and I being me have very little experience with cars and wiring so I was thinking of just running the wire from the dashcam tucked into the headliner and down the pillar and then into the center console with the cigarette port. I've taken off the A pillar cover but beyond that I would have no clue how to get the wire into the footwell area.

Can you guys guide me on how to do it?

Thanks

now that you have the "A" pillar cover off , remove the fuse cover driver side of dash ,fish your wire down the pillar ,along the fuse block , then under dash to center console . good luck

Yes what he said, I would recommend buying this and just hard wire it to your cigarette thingy. If you have a bench seat then 4 screws hold that piece into the dash. The little box that opens just pills out and there's 2 screws on the upper side and 2 on the bottom and the whole thing comes off then you can disconnect the cigarette cables and t tap

Can it not be wired to the lights in the center overhead console? Seems to me to be easier than running it through the headliner etc.?

Yes but It would be a little more difficult, if you have no tools to figure out which wire has current when the truck is on.

I would rather not mess with wiring directly. I have the center console instead of the (6th?) seat bench seat thing. Which ends up giving me like 4 cigarette ports which I think is plenty. I jus thave to take off the end of the wire and put it back on.

New radar detectors have an option for a "mirror tap". You can plug them right into the back of your rear view mirror. If I was doing one, I would look into that. I did it on my corvette and the radar detector came on with the key.

I saw some info on invisiblewire which is a mirror tap but that is another one of those I'm not sure about things. It seemed best to just leave everything and just run it into a cigarette lighter. I appreciate all the information though.

Thanks

If you're already opening up one of the IP fuse blocks (there are two, one on each end), then I really don't know why you wouldn't try an ATR fuse tap. I did this when installing my charging phone cradle, and worked well -- just make sure to pick a circuit that has some free space around it, since the taps I purchased from ebay seem to eat a little bit of space.

So, me being the lazy sack of crap I am, I did the lazy route and just ran it from console into the footwell, along the edge of the door and into the a pillar/headliner. Which is good enough for me.

I've got a blackvue 2 channel with power magic pro and that's what I did. Runs to an add a fuse down there and I never have to mess with it, turns on and off automatically and you never notice it.

Ran down the a pillar to the fuse panel.

Tapped the Purple/White, its ignition switched, grounded at the bolt.
