03 with 31k

There is a 2003 Silverado 1500 ext cab 4wd at near by reputable dealership. One owner 31k leather 5.3 no rust etc etc. They are asking just under $15k for it. I know its 13 year old truck but given the condition and low miles does this sound reasonable. New silverado lt would be around 40k im sure so is 15k for a well taken care of used truck with no rust that far fetched?

May depend a bit on where you live and the available supply.

 

Up here in the Northeast, used 4WD trucks in good condition/low rust/low mileage are pretty rare and are selling for a premium over retail/blue book.

 

I just picked up a 2002 Sierra 1500 Denali (AWD Extended Cab) for $15K. I know the dealer as I've bought from him before. He had it listed right at blue book retail and he would not budge an inch on this truck. He also had 5 people in line behind me waiting to pounce.

 

It has 73K miles on it and very little frame rust. Looks like they had shopped it fairly well (replaced the brake lines, calipers, rotors) prior to sale. I was under it today and fuel lines are in very good condition as are all body panels and the rear wells. Frame rust is that of a truck half its age or better. Body is near perfect, every light bulb, switch, function works, AC works, engine compartment is very clean, leather clean, no tears, carpet almost perfect. I owe a huge thank you to original owner for taking such good care of it.

 

I was apprehensive at first spending that kind of money on a 13 year old truck, especially one that lived its entire life in New England. But after the fact, and given its condition, I'm now very glad that I did. Just giving you some details to help you compare with your situation. It doesn't sound far fetched to me.

But isn't yours a Work Truck or an basic LS? The WT and LS models are priced lower than the others due to not having many installed options. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just difficult to really compare prices that way.

 

OP, what is the trim level on that truck and how is it equipped? That can play a big role when it comes to pricing.

Condition is so important for value and longevity. I bought my 07 classic crewcab 4x4 1500 with 90k miles for $16k. Bluebooked for 19k. One owner all service records from new from one local dealership. No accidents or major repairs. Matching topper and extremely clean LT3 interior. The previous owner had all services done on time.

It is a WT, I am slowing upgrading some options, like I did the Drivers Information Center upgrade for $73

The truck ls still an almost 15 year old truck regardless of the miles. From my expirience if would rather have something newer with more miles. When things sit or don't get driven a lot they seem to have weird issues. imo

True statement. My truck is 15 years old, but has 275,000 miles on it. Runs great. It sits more than it used it recently. And I definitely notice a difference vs when I drove it everyday.

 

OP, seems like a great deal but I would be VERY cautious. You don't get a warranty with that, and who knows what could go wrong once you sign the dotted line.

Probably a low mile elderly driver who was picky about maintenance and didn't hot rod. I'd start them at 12k.
