Fox 2.0 arrived today!

Spoke to the place I purchased them from today. They said the same thing, add pre load. They said to do it on the truck even though Fox recommended removing them and using a spring compressor. He said what's the point of an adjustable coilover if you have to remove it to adjust.

... good point. I had adjustable coilivers on my accord (whole different animal, i know) but i was able to adjust them on the vehicle using the provided wrenches. It was easier to lower when the car was on the ground, and i jacked it up to take stress off, to raise it.

Sweet shocks.

Stupid question here- I got a RC 7" lift on a 2014 with the stock front shocks and the rear shocks provided by RC. Can I just swap out the OEM front shocks with these coilovers and not have a problem?

Now I'm torn what to do. The vendor says to adjust them on the truck but everything I'm reading online says the 2.0's have to be removed and the spring compressed to adjust them. Hate to say it but if you have aluminum control arms I wouldn't recommend buying these. Every non GM truck forum I've been on said the Fox 2.0 gave the advertised lift right out of the box. Now I'm worried adding more pre load to get the advertised lift will make my new $800 coilovers ride like crap. Why isn't anything I ever decide to do easy? The $26 2" level kit I bought worked like a charm. The $800 coilovers are a pain in my ass.

I can assure you the spring pressure when the truck weight is on them won't change because you changed the spring pad height.

What will change, that may affect ride quality is the A-arm angles, as you lengthen the coilover assembly with the truck weight on wheels (WOW). The softest ride will be when the A-arms are at the most horizontal position. If height is more important to you than ride, crank em up.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Have you ever thought about Icon coilovers? Mine are great. The only reason I chose to go with icons over fox was I had icons on my last truck and loved them. Love them on my new truck too. Way better than that crap Rancho suspension originally on my all-terrain.

I haven't thought about them since I just dropped over a grand on these and get the impression returning them isn't an option. I'm going to take them to a buddy's alignment shop in the morning. Hopefully using his wall mounted strut compressor we can increase the pre load and I'll reinstall them.

I had to crank the sh*t out my spring compressor to be able to adjust the collar. Some heavy duty springs for sure!

Ya know, spending the money we do on these shocks, you'd think you'd just open the box, install 'em on truck and get 2" of lift. Come on FOX, can't be that hard!

Mine were a pain in the butt too...

Were you able to get the 2" of lift? If so how many inches of threads are showing on the shock body below the adjustment ring and how do they ride with the increased pre load?

I would say if you can return them you need to do so. Something here doesn't add up, and adding pre-load to get desired results when nobody else that you've seen had to, sounds fishy to me. They are not doing what they are advertised to do, and should be considered a defective product. I don't know why companies can't just stand up and accept blame, and make things right without giving the consumers a run around anymore.

Looks like fox is going to pay the shipping and I'll send them in for them to adjust. Fingers crossed.

Oh good to hear. Ive been following your stuggle and am rooting for you to finally get a win.

Ride will only change due to increased angle of the A-arms

Not so sure. Fox told me anytime you add more preload it will get more firm as you're compressing the coil spring more.

Yep, that's how coilovers work, had BC coilovers and H&R coilovers before.

That is a misleading statement. The spring preload is simply a condition of the assembly when it is not installed. Once installed, the weight of the vehicle compresses the spring until equilibrium is reached between spring force and weight of the vehicle.

Preload is a condition that only exists because the shock absorber extended length is limited.

If you could take suspension geometry out of the equation, moving the spring perch up and down would simply move the vehicle up and down, with no change in ride quality.

The reality is that this type of " lift" creates a change in mechanical leverage acting on the spring as the angle of the A-arm gets further from the horizontal position. The effect is a exponential change in suspension stiffness as the change in angle continues.

You can use spacers or change the spring perch height (which changes uninstalled preload) and the effect will be the same.

The effect of preload on these coilover assemblies in our truck situation is widely misunderstood.

    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
    • Just wanted to get a idea of how many of you still have problems with your radio cutting out during the first few minutes of driving, my 2024 GMC Sierra still does this after a little over 2 years of complaining to my dealer about it, and OTA updates no longer complete, the check for updates in settings is greyed out for the second time while trying to install a update, my dealer took about a week to play around with it the first time this happened, and somehow got the check for updates to work, even though it would always show system is up to date when I knew it wasn't, now again 1 month later its greyed out again when the OTA update N25-F163BU tried to install, which ironically is the update to help with reliability of future updates.
